Satellite images show ravages to the coastal community of Seaside Heights

The boardwalk made famous by MTV's "Jersey Shore" was mostly destroyed in this week's superstorm, along with much of the surrounding neighborhood of Seaside heights. Click and drag on the sliders over the satellite images below to see before and after images of the boardwalk, the Casino Pier, and Funtown amusement park.

Sandy ripped apart the end of Casino Pier, along with the rollercoaster and other amusement rides:

The shiny object in the water in the "after" picture is a rollercoaster. You can see pictures of the ride floating in the water here and here

Funtown amusement park, located at the south end of the boardwalk, was decimated in the storm:

It looks like the coastline is refreshed and blue again. All the green algae seem to be gone, it might have been full of NYC's sewage output.

Weather is eroding.

Thank goodness. I've always hated The Jersey Shore. Just kidding, I do feel sorry for the inhabitants, but I do hate the show. And Chelle12, you're right. Look how the hurricane purified the waters that the humans have polluted. Isn't it great?

As a teen I worked at both Casino Pier in Seaside Heights and Funtown in Seaside Park. It hurts to see so much devastation but it's only 'stuff.' It will be rebuilt, as will the houses along the shore.
It will cost billions of dollars for the Mid-Atlantic states to recover but it will happen.
But the 109 lives (so far) that were lost are the real tragedy.

And btw- NO ONE despises 'The Jersey Shore' more than the people who are from there.

@Mukuro Holmes,

Yes, I just googled and it turns out that the coastline was indeed swamped with algae:

... and in the comment section someone already predicted in August:

"The coming tropical storm will remedy the situation."

Man, that place looks like it got hit by a hurricane......
