"I'm totally insane," he said. "I know because I can see reality as it flicks past, just a little slit of sunlight. I'm in a giant maelstrom, swirling, whirling, with reality only a small slot in the side."
Although it was written to simply describe an LSD experience, the vividness of Gannon's article inadvertently reinforces the allure of illicit substances. You can't read something like the sentence above without understanding how drugs have become such an integral part of contemporary society. Drug addiction is nothing new, but as our archives will attest, the organized drug trade is constantly using sneakier ways to smuggle increasingly sophisticated products.
At the turn of the century, cocaine, heroin, and opium ruled the drug scene. Smugglers sewed dope into their jacket hems and injected heroin into oranges, which were then sold to prisoners who were already serving time for selling drugs.
The drug problem only got worse once Prohibition came into effect. We explored how the methods people used to snort up drugs and the possible physical effects, including "saddle nose"—or what is today known as "coke nose."
As the decades wore on, researchers worked to develop a non-toxic medication to wean addicts off drugs. The University of Virginia labored to create a "dopeless dope,"while scientists attempted to breed hemp that didn't contain the marijuana component.
It's been a good 60 years, and scientists are still working to perfect the technology. Those experiments might not have ended well, but plenty of other anti-drug measures did. Click through our gallery to read about how we covered the rise of marijuana in the 1960's, the corruption among dope-addicted diplomats, and how one agent who dubbed himself "Flash" busted drug rings on the regular.

"...if the mind is not a singularity, and if we possessed additional senses or an increased sensory channel capacity, we would perceive yet other patterns and other realities which would be known by those features of the mind best attuned to them. If the mind is not a singularity but a multiplicity, this means that both A and B, may be known simultaneously."
"...the splitting of the mind following split-brain surgery, and dissociative states where the mind leaves the body and achieves a state of quantum consciousness and singularity such that the universe and mind ... become one."
one way to force a state of quantum conciousness is through an experience with LSD- only the real stuff shulgun(sp?) and shulgun synthesized. ever since my experience on that trip, i understood everything i knew as a person was a product of someone or something else but underneath those layers of social engineering there was a me untarnished by the values of consumerism which we are exposed to even before we are born (at least at some subconscious level)
when used correctly it can create mental framework to understand solutions to some of the most complex as well as basic issues in our world.
but sadly, the United States military and intelligence services wanted to turn it into a mind control apparatus, and when the reality hit those early military acidheads, they threw themselves out of windows... probably because once the universe and mind become one, the issues of the world that consume everyday life become irrelevant.
irrelevant? what on earth do i mean? well irrelevant in that a realization that in the recesses of the mind there exists something that is beyond life, beyond eternal, beyond any level of "sober" comprehension.
so hey US government float me a grant to establish the American Psychonautics Academy and theres a good chance I, with a well paid staff, may be able to solve this coming economic crisis that will become the greatest depression and world war 3. it is only a matter of time. mankind has a destiny and it will be fulfilled only when mankind evolves into a species of individuals who have the tolerance of a monk but a sublime ferocity of a lion.
.... and these previous few paragraphs are the product of LSD use 9 years ago.
You are awesome. Yes, a little acid would be way better than a lot of prescriptions.
He's either still tripping or having flashbacks.
Before i was 18, I had probly taken 500+ trips , with LSD , Most ,I understood what was happing to me. My trips mostly alone , Camping at night, afforded me the Quantum space to create , (my own Movies) , Dimentions, time travels, i could find people that i knew , just thinking = connecting with their minds . Letting them know i was looking for them. mabey to meet at a certain bar, or favorite , Tripping Grounds. Kool cigs , were always a must, possably a beer. a toke or two of pot ,hash, i wasn't a regular consumer of herb's to smoke. The added small amount-to more would slightly alter the effects of the trips. depending on the direction,or attention ,i would have preferd, at that time. A few 3-5 times i had consumed larger than normal amounts of LSD , sometimes called 4-way or 8 way hits. I didn't believe that, so i did them anyWay. The effects lasted as much as 3 days, leaving me with no Knowledge of these overdosed trips. Wasted time . but in all lsd was My drug of preference. @ age 56,, now i still rember some of the trips , I would do again , preferably in a lab set up to momotor brain waves , now with new tec. I believe there would be Better results in the studies about this Quantum ,Multidimensional, LSD
Wase'nt LSD created to cure alcholism? Cuz when i was triping I could drink and drink and not get get drunk it was awsome! but one day I tolk waaaay to meny hits and saw my rib cage open up and my flesh was flying out of my body like bats out of cave i dint freek out I was just siting back and enjoing the show I thought it was funny that my flesh was splaterd all over the wall
It appears that taking LSD also makes you best-buddies with the humble comma,,,, Poor, comma, why, is, he, always, left, out and, cast aside, he surely, deserves, more, attention, because he's, my friend ;)
Now, DMT favours not one punctuation mark over the other. No, it loves all.
Moronic promotional drug push article!
Flashbacks are a LIE.
I've been waiting for 40 years for mine.
I NEVER had a bad trip...that I can remember.
