We are pleased to announce that PPX Leagues are finally here! 2009 is the year of change and we are giving the power of choice to our players. You can create and join as many leagues as you like. You make the rules, you determine the prizes. Ah, freedom. Ain't it sweet?
So here's how it works:
-- Bragging rights come complimentary of your hosts; all other prizes are determined (and delivered) within your own leagues.
-- When you join a league, your current Net Worth will be used as the starting point for % gain calculations. All new league members will start at 0% gain. Your standing in your league will be determined by % gain comparison.
-- Each leagues admin can optionally decide to reset all league member's percent gain to 0%, whenever he or she chooses to do so. This will not affect any league member's actual net worth, just starting net worth for the current round of league competition. This way, if you want to maintain a monthly contest within your league, in which everyone starts fresh each month, just reset the %gain to 0% at the beginning of the month (or whatever interval you choose).
--Join public leagues with the click of a button. Join private leagues by admin approval.
The Leagues are ideal for groups of colleagues, family, friends, and even as a teaching resource. PPX, and the Leagues, are an example of PopSci.com’s commitment to introducing (really cool) interactive applications that users can get creative in, and actively contribute to, fostering community activity and user generated content that goes beyond the basics. We want to give you the tools that you can work and play with.
So, PPXers, spread the word. Call up your friends and family members and start leagues of your own. If you're a teacher, get your students competing against each other or against other classrooms, and engaging with real-world science and technology news in a whole new way.
Lastly, don't be shy! Let us know what you think, and what leagues you've created (got your bowling team trading props too? Fantasic-- tell us about it and send us a pic), and we'll show you some love on the site.
