Don’t bother asking people to pose for the F50fd. It’s the first camera that can detect faces—to optimize focus, exposure and color—even if people are turned to the side or looking up or down. (Cameras usually have to spot two eyes to see a face, which makes candid shots tricky.) The 12-megapixel F50fd can find as many as 10 faces in a scene. Add in image stabilization and automatic red-eye removal, and spontaneous shots look picture-perfect. $300; fujifilm.com
