The Green Dream Gets Ready for a Green Roof

Robert1234: What's the purpose of this roof? With no text to indicate what is accomplished, the article means nothing. Is it somehow "green" but composed of styrene monomer? Is it cheap? Is it energy efficient? What's the deal here?

There are only two types of green roofs. One type of green roofs uses 100% renewable resources produced on site or made locally. Wood shingles, shod, straw, palm leaves,....

The second type of green roof is covered with solar panels generating enough electrical power meet all the home owner need for energy day or night.

Both home need to have a system that stores rain run off for home use.

I seen nothing that makes this home green. Ellen

I, too, am having a hard time understanding the "green-ness" of this roof design and it's overall purpose.

Yes, Ellenbetty and all other people that have so far posted comments, this roof is green in it's own way. Sure, it is not made of local products nor does it have solar panels on it, but if you would have read captions the idea would have come through.
It is for a GARDEN. Plants take advantage of both the sunlight and the water that falls during rains. Note coatings for mold protection and water drainage. "Green" = Plants = Food and Beauty on an otherwise worthless area.

I, too, am having a hard time understanding the "green-ness" of this roof design and it's overall purpose.
