I say short it, if only to send Growler into a tizzy. Plus I want to see an eruption on Friday at say 8:00 PM and see him try to halt the stock before Monday afternoon, Even Taylor has trouble getting things halted in a timely manner. Besides doesn't it sound like he is just trying a bit too hard to drive the price up.

Of course if you were really on top of things you would have seen this article and requested that the stock be closed already. http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=10018591&nav=menu510_2

No growler you were treating people like they are idiots and that only you can save them from themselves. Added to that you imply that you have some grand insight and power over halting of stocks and other information. I'm just calling you out on it.

Grower I'm one of the strongest against people being able to flip after the out come, and have advocated a number of times for retro cancellations to the date and time information is posted to end a stock, (those buying/ flipping after that time would be returned to where they were at the announcement. So that if information that causes a stock to close comes out on Friday at 5 PM and there is no one to close it till Monday, it gets closed on Monday effective Friday at 5 PM so all trades on that stock over the weekend are voided and people are where they were on Friday at 5 PM for that stock.(not a popular concept, from the responses that have been posted to the idea). But it is the fairest way to deal with intentional and unintentional changes after information that should close a stock is known.

I don't even mind someone saying they think its a good idea to hold long until right before a stock closes then switch, but you don't need to start a new thread when other threads exist for the stock, to tell everyone.

sorry meant growler

Growler30:
Why don’t you just try to call Taylor now and tell her roygbiv has already shown you on his link that it needs to pay long. The payout does not specified how big of an eruption must be. So even this small eruption makes the payout statement valid. Try finding something more from the geologists that claimed that it was a small eruption and you are done and right on going long on this one.

Currently this is officially still SHORT according to the official AVO website. Apparently there was some sort of disagreement onto the which terminology to describe the event on Sunday, but the official term, according to the AVO, is that this was an "emission" and not an eruption. It looks like we're specifically looking for magma surfacing before declaring an eruption. Read below from the AVO website:

2009-03-18 09:41:36 - VAN/VONA
The Alaska Volcano Observatory is lowering the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Alert Level to Advisory for Mount Redoubt. Following the steam and ash emission on Sunday, March 15, seismicity has declined to levels prior to that event, and no additional emissions have been observed in web camera or satellite images. The new magma beneath the volcano does not show signs of upward movement at this time. The volcano remains restless with abnormally high rates of gas emission and continued melting of the summit glacier. It is still possible for the current period of unrest to result in an eruption. However, the type of unrest we have observed so far could persist for many months to a year or more and not lead to an eruption. It is possible for conditions at the volcano to change rapidly, advancing from relatively low levels of activity to eruption in time periods as short as 24 hours or less.

Growler,
As far as rallying support to hold this Long until the day before payoff, good luck with that. Most people are going to trade based on recent events and trends. Your logic would make sense if the payout trigger was wired directly to the on-site seismic equipment and the volcano suddenly erupted without a hiccup of a warning. Besides, you make more money following the daily ups and downs, so enjoy the ride.

Growler, your reporter from the new site you posted doesn't know way he/she is talking about/ didn't research. Here is what Alaska Volcano Observatory had to say about that event.
" Interpretation of New Activity and Possible Outcomes
Although preliminary, it is likely that the plume observed just after 1:00 PM AKDT on Sunday, March 15, 2009 was produced by a steam explosion in the shallow hydrothermal system of the volcano. Without examination of the ash we cannot say with certainty if the ash represents new magma or if it is merely pulverized old material from the surface of the volcano.

Steam-driven explosions are not unexpected events at Redoubt given the amount of heat that is being released at the surface. It is possible that more such explosions can occur with little or no warning. It is possible that these plumes can reach above 20,000 feet, and may contain minor amounts of fine ash.

Relatively rapid increases in seismic activity, and an overall waxing and waning pattern to the seismicity at Redoubt may persist for weeks to months. Increases in seismicity may or may not be associated with other volcanic phenomena, such as minor ash emission, and vigorous steaming. The burst of activity at Redoubt on March 15, 2009 indicates that the volcano is still in a restless condition.

AVO plans to visit Redoubt later this week to attempt collection of ash samples, retrieve GPS data and do some routine maintenance of seismic and other equipment.

AVO has resumed 24 hour per day staffing of the AVO operations center in Anchorage."-AVO

By the way it's back down to yellow.

Been erupting for almost 12 hours now and the stock is still active - what happened to growler's inside track to getting this one halted the moment it erupted??

From www.avo.alaska.edu :

2009-03-22 23:02:22
An eruption of Mt. Redoubt began at approximately 22:38 AKDT, March 22, 2009 (0638 UTC). AVO is raising the aviation color code to Red and the alert level to Warning. Initial height of the eruption cloud is estimated at less than 20,000 ft above sea level at present. Further reports will be issued as more information becomes available.

Just a simple proof that nobody cares about PPX at the top.
I guess that having 500 active player does not justified the resources used for this game. This is why they are so understaff.
My next prediction: Will be how much longer the PPX will survived before they pull the plug it.

There are a few that do care, but they are understaffed and have other, higher priority things to do so PPX gets attention only when they have time.

Some of us have been here for years and know how the system works so it's funny when some newbie comes in claiming they have connections and can get things done immediately. Those of us that have been around know better.

Well it looks like it did go long! Mt. Redoubt erupted five times, with a 60,000 foot eruption.

Of course yesterday, the day before it happened I set it so my 500 long stocks would sell immediately as soon as the price got to what I payed. Boo, lost my chance at a lot of money :?)
