American Power

Well, Americans have a fleet of several hundred million vehicles that will be rendered obsolete overnight if we don't do drilling until we are absolutely certain we have located all the oil that there is in the territorial USA or its waters. We may as well do this because the greenhouse gas theory is coming unglued as it becomes more and more obvious that the globe is currently cooling. This cooling is explicable only by contorted "global warming causes global cooling" explanations, or by simply assuming that sunspot activity matters a lot more than the burning of fossil fuels when it comes to climate change.

For fixed station power requirements, we could quit tearing down smaller dams that produce local electricity, prevent flooding, and provide irrigation water for agriculture. At least two dams are scheduled to be deconstructed in Oregon and some truthful computer-generated photoshop illustrations of just how many hundreds of acres of windmills and solar arrays it will really take to replace those two dams would be useful to the understanding of increasingly dumbed-down Americans.

Forty new nuclear plants would also help. Scientists who claim that the waste disposal problem hasn't been solved rely upon estimates that 10,000 years from now there could be small leaks of some radiation into ground water. By that time 95% of the interred radioactive waste will be inert and harmless, but the remaining residue could conceivably harm something in an absolutely worst case scenario. All this assumes, however, that there will not be anyone around in 10,000 years who could easily fix such problems. Why assume that?

Lastly, the USA is unquestionably the Saudi Arabia of coal.
We could go to clean coal technology and not only power our homes and industry basically forever at reasonable cost, or we could continue to emit carbon dioxide and have really rather cheap energy, including producing liquid fuel for vehicles from coal. Since man-caused global warming looks more and more like an impetuous, hysterical, mob psychology type of epic scientific blunder, why not go the latter route until our nation recovers economically? The prosperous middle and lower working class in America was not built on the good intentions and wise policies of government technocrats, nor on the benevolence of successful capitalists, but on the abundance of cheap resources, ESPECIALLY ENERGY.

I completly agree.
I hope our president elect can read your suggestions too!

Uh, is the trace-amounts-of-manmade-greenhouse-gas-is- causing-global-warming theory starting to be revealed as the hoax it is? It is snowing in New Orleans, folks.

"Ehem"... it's warmer here than the previous years Mr. Cook... near the equator... just thought that this might help... but it's snowing in Louisiana? That's funny in a weird way...

As a European I am disappointed but not surprised at this me-first emotive language attempting to discredit something that has unequivocally been scientifically proven and the only people disagreeing are people in the Republican Party with a vested interest in the energy industries.
It may be news to you but your outgoing government are pretty much isolated in the world and have now had to bow to the facts and even Bush himself has eventually had to accept that Global warming is occurring and we are the cause. That’s one reason we are happy that your new president elect is showing far more intelligence and wisdom on the subject.
Please approach this issue by looking at the scientific FACTS not the opinion and rhetoric of those with financial self-interest at the core of their argument. We all want to be prosperous but not at the expense of the only place we can possibly inhabit. Please OPEN YOUR EYES and your MIND.....

According to stuff that NASA is putting out yesterday, I am all wet and the Antarctic, Greenland, and the Arctic have suffered the net loss of two trillion tons of ice due to global warming. Also the Arctic is "6 to 10 degrees warmer in autumn in places." Satellite measurements are cited as the proof of these findings.

These pronunciamentoes have some holes in them. The "in places" qualifier suggests what is always true in statistical analysis--we need to know how many and where there are places that may be be 6 to 10 degrees colder than average. It is strange that these announcements apparently do not make any mention of what AVERAGE temps are doing, especially for the whole year.

The first reports also say that the great mass of the alleged decline in ice is in or around Greenland. It would be very deceptive indeed if the researchers releasing these statements are simply estimating the total tonnage of the late summer and autumn meltbacks that are normal in the Arctic, because that ice is very quickly being replaced as I type.

Are you people really this stupid? First, drilling for oil will not possibly solve the American problem. The oil, if maximized in US areas, would be less than 1% of the total oil worldwide, thus at best it would reduce prices 1% and extend the life of petroleum pollution by maybe 9 months. That's not going to do us much good. As for nukes, if you think 10,000 years will decon the existing nuclear waste, you're not reading the same physics books the rest of the world is. And, by the way, 10,000 years is longer than mankind has be walking fully upright. NOTHING man has made has or can last 10,000 years. The real idiots think that if we put the nuke waste out of sight, that solves the problem. We should stamp an "O" on their foreheads, being dumber than the proverbial head-in-the-sand Australian idiots birds. Sigh.

You jerks just don't get it. YOUR OWN KIDS will be dying in poverty because you're to stupid to look around you. The oceans are dying. The seas are rising. The weather is violently upset. What will it take for your idiots to wake up? Mankind will be lucky to survive at all and then only if we move NOW to solve the problem. The Arctic is almost 10 deg. F hotter than it's been for 100,000 years. So much ice has melted off Greenland that it's raised the oceans already and it's happening faster than the most radical person though it could.

Wake up. Look around you. We can't drill our way out of this mess. We need to change things and we can't do that by doing more of the same thing we've been doing that created the problem!

I have never met a stupid person or an idiot so I >think< I will join this debate or maybe it is my lack of that urges me to write on with a smile. Maybe that in itself is what a stupid person does. If that is so then I will agree to be the stupid idiot.

I do not see where being either European or American gives an individual a higher position from where to view the world. We are all on the same ball of dirt called Planet Earth. I call it the Play-Net.

To consider that burning things, cutting trees, and making waste out of a system that was created way before man could even start to attempt to destroy it requires to much effort to get into.

I see that there is global warming and global cooling happening at the same time by forces way beyond anything that man does as destructive to anything and that of what man could possibly do as constructive. The world existed without plant life or human life for billions of years so to think that humans decide or are in control of anything for the planet to survive is silly, funny, and yes fun too.

The issue is energy for humans. In the U.S. where I was born which has nothing to do with anything... so again. In the U.S. as in Europe and all of the 380 or so countries there is the problem with how what humans do have a Cause and Effect to and onto other humans now and in a future that will become and becoming happens as quick as old people dying and new people are born.

The subject is "Energy".

If the U.S. could do things through burning more there would be no need for any clean coal technology. To mention cleaning anything would suggest that if we could do things without the need for cleaning should be obvious. The CO2 that has been introduced so far has not killed everyone. Only the lucky people are dead as they do not have to think about how to prevent further death of another one of us.

The Wind and the Ocean have more energy than people have been able to realize because the systems have not been put into what society considers a priority. I have designed systems that would make burning anything truly appear stupid from an economic viewpoint. But first people have to stop doing what humans do best and that is the "Self-Destruction" by considering others "Stupid" and "Idiots".

The next few months shall clearly show how humans act when things do not go their way and next year will begin the true decline of the free market system. Socialism does not work. The Free Market does not work. And there is nothing free when it comes to "Energy".

When people start helping each other I too have some helpful things to share. But in this climate I can only wait until people start eating each other. That is how far things have always been taken before some one asks a "Stupid" question such as "Is there a better way?"

Cheers.
