It is because drinks' minerals are absorbed into the blood. Your blood is then cleansed by your kidneys and whatever excess water and waste is in your blood (your body keeps most of the other minerals) comes out as yellow or clear in your urine.

If you drink caffeinated drinks your urine will be clear the next two or three times you urinate because the caffeine pulls water out of your system. Its why people don't drink sodas before any athletic event plus the syrup doesn't help you either.

The urinary tract is completely different from your digestive tract. Your kidneys pull toxins and water from and clean your blood. They do not do anything to filter the actual liquid that you drink. The majority of it is absorbed by your intestines and the rest will continue through...try drinking A LOT of grape soda and take a look at what you leave behind! You might think that you've become a Smurf!
