I owned 1000 shares of SAFELAND since it was at 50$. That means i earned 581000 dollars!
i have not has a stock that has dropped since i had some in longlife.
i have 1000 in 3gphone and GTLFLIGHT so im doing good with those 2.

Also, I hate it when people only buy 500 or 600 shares of something. Just buy 1000 shares and don't be so passive.
maybe they want their portfolio to be more diverse and they can't afford to have 1000 of each yet because they just started
if a new prop comes out, like safeland, and i don't have enough cash on hand to buy it, i'll sell a few hundred shares of something else to buy it then when it pays out i'll go back and buy the shares that i sold from before
Ethan_57, I'm not sure how you get $581,000 from 1,000 shares of SAFELAND held at $50. You should re-check your math, because the maximum amount you could have earned would be $49,750 ( 1000 shares multiplied by $50, less $250 commissions ).
And since the stated purpose of this thread is bragging, I'll just say I'm better at math than you.
Well the highest payout has been for GOOGLE held short when it was at $100.25, which I along with a number of others had. Even better I purchased before commissions went into effect, so it cost me nothing to buy in. Had a thousand shares so I made $100250.00 profit, on a short that evidently was supposed to be a sure thing long.

Also, I have a question. What does the volume mean when you look at the description of a stock.
It means how loud it is.
Just kidding, I think it means how many shares were recently traded.
not sure how accurate the volume indicator is though...a lot of times there will be movement up or down but no volume (like less than 1000)...not sure if it's updated periodically or it doesn't take into account something
It's just one of the PPX's weird little things that we overlook because we love the PPX so much. We're a bit pathetic, really.
Speak for yourself. I make no claims to being pathetic.
No, as a group we're pathetic, because this is our lives. I know that I'd be bored out of my gourd at school without it.
from Cleveland, Ohio
I know what you mean. I check almost every period at school to see how my stocks are doing. Heck, it is even my homepage.

this is what you ppl choose to brag about :-) lol
Are you still here? Hurry, the short bus is about to leave you behind!

ok, i'll brag. I bet you anything that i will reach the top 100 by the end of june. i am already 300.
No way in heck. I was in the top 150 two months ago, and now I'm 106, and that's not for lack of trying. I broke it, but then I caught a payout the wrong way. I hope I'll be back by the tenth. (when school gets out)
just FYI bunny, it took me 5 weeks to get into the top 300 and another 6 months to get into the top 100
from Shelton, CT
It took me about 6 weeks to get into the top 100, but another 7 months to get into the top 5.
msholdenct, when you started there were only 200 players....
msholdenct, when you started there were only 200 players....
And vulgarian is never wrong.
msholdnct (however it's spelled), you got into the top 5 because all the good players gave up or were penalized (let's start another fight!).
Well, I've been in the top 100 for over a year, with over half that time not even logged in once. Won't be in it for long though - just noticed last night I dropped one rank to 98. Bunny (funny how there are at least 280 players that have chosen the name bunnybowling), I have almost 1.7 million pop$s, which means you'll need at least that to get into the top 100 (probably will be more by the time you get close). Keep trying though. Ah, the good old days when getting into the top 5 meant getting 1M. I would have gotten into the top 5 (this is the bragging thread?), except I actually had a life. Remember scarletpimple (most of you knew him better as mvail)? Remember when he won the monthly contest (actually, that cost him since they penalized him for it - hehe)? Well, for the first three weeks, me and another guy were ahead of him (I easily passed that guy in the ranks a few weeks later). But pimple later admitted he checked in almost every 5 to 15 minutes while he was awake, and sold all his stocks before he went to bed. So, yeah, he won by a lot in the end. Oh, and that last week I was on vacation (that was a great vacation :) ). Anyway, pimple is now known as probably the best player (besides The Rooster), since he moved up so quick in the ranks, until he got into the top five. I can't remember, did he get to #1, or was he always behind Royha (whatever his name is), and that. . .that other guy (been too long)? Royha, you were good too. Very good.
P.S. read through what I wrote, and some of it wasn't nice. Oh, well, don't take it too seriously. It's just a retired player having some fun. Although, I just made a trade for the first time in who knows how long - shorted marslife. That's a funny prop. Some fool waveriders made it go up though - already lost 2K on it. Now I have, let's see, I think around 500K pop$s invested in props (funny how so many still haven't paid off).
Oh, whoops, hope that is'nt still considered cheating, telling what you traded.

I started in mid September. Not sure how many players we had then, but on 10/11 I was player 557 of 17,168, and on 10/31 I was #57 out of 18,216.
But frankly, as long as I'm moving in the right direction, I don't really care as I enjoy the challenge, and I've made some good friends on ppxchat.
As for Rooster, Mvail, and GPM, they all had good runs, but they decided to give up ppx, so it doesn't really matter how good they would be today.
I beg to differ with your last sentence. Though I don't think too much about any of the three (since they were better simply because they spent more time waveriding), I still think they were some of the best (except maybe gpm1949). Thing is, they didn't give up - they were severely penalized. At the time, although mvail stayed in the top 10 despite losing 100k+, The Rooster lost close to a third of what he had. And he was still rank 17th or something. Before being penalized, the Rooster wasn't just one of the top 10 players. He was amazingly better than everyone else. Remember when he sat at 1M for like a month or so? (wait, if you started in september, you may not remember). He only began trading again once a couple people caught up and passed him by a couple 100k, and then passed them again within a week. If you showed up around september, than you came to the scene when he was already semi-retired. And yet he was still in the top ten until he was penalized much later.
I'm sure if he'd continued at it he would have reached 10M a month ago. Couple that with ppxbroker.com, which did more for the ppx community than anything else besides ppx being formed. So unless we are talking about only current players, I don't think anyone can compare to The Rooster.
I'm surprised you considered gpm in your list there, He wasn't that good. There are many more you could have mentioned. Of course, you came on the scene when mvail was promoting him in the forums (that always made me laugh - the only two active adults saying how good the other was). Yes he made it into the top 10 (i think, actually maybe he didn't; can't remember), but that was during all the constroversy when the top ten were the only active traders in the top 50.
Yeah, but the thing is, they quit. "Could have beens" and "might haves" are all good and well, but there is no way of knowing for sure, and they don't matter, except maybe to those stuck in the past.
Also, Rooster wasn't penalized close to a third of his net worth, unless you count 25% as being close to a third. Even if you do, it's more accurate to say he was penalized for a quarter of his net worth.
I also beg to differ on your statement regarding ppxbroker. I think that ppxchat.com and the chatroom have done more for the community than ppxbroker did, but that's just my opinion, just as what you said about ppxbroker is only your opinion.
@Vulgarian: If msholdenct came onto the scene in September, there were certainly more than 200 players. I joined in July, and there were over 18,000 players then. Unless you meant active players, in which case there is no really accurate way to gauge the amount, or even to define the term "active player."
For what it's worth, I was just making a joke. Never expected it to blow up into this. I don't know anything about the earliest days of PPX, since I joined around the same time (July or so).

I hate these double posts!
Anyway, forgot to say I never paid a lot of attention to the contests, politicking, etc. that went on back then.
Another double post, coming up!
Sorry I misread your attitude. Humor is hard to do over the internet sometimes. As for the rest of it, you really didn't miss much. My time would have been much better spent if I hadn't paid attention to the contests, politicking, etc that went on then.

Why did those guys get penalized?
Cheating...
not cheating...
being better than the average bear...
it depends on how you look at it.

how can you cheat. hack into the system
Go to the old forums (there's a link somewhere). find a thread about rooster. read.

That has a few links to some old threads (you'll have to do some URL manipulation to get it to go the old ones though since they changed the URLs) that will give you answers

wow, admins are shown to be the low morally deficient pond scum now? never ceases to amaze even after the entire system being left to rot...... amazing that new stocks are actually being added nowadayz
that link i put up is months old from august...in no way do i endorse the message in that article, it just has links to the old threads that pertain to the rooster and people who are no longer playing
@bunnybowl and milkweed: They were penalized for collusion, because whether by accident or design, they had similar trading patterns in the same time periods. Songbird's account was deleted because users are only allowed one account, and Rooster could not or did not prove that Songbird was owned by his wife.
@Capt. Jack: There is much to be said for proper spelling and grammar, but I shall not say it. Instead, since you don't seem to like the game or how it is run, I'd like to advise you to STFU and GTFO.
That link was to a highly subjective blog written by an unidentified author. As such, it's pretty damn suspect.
On the humor issue, yeah, I'm not known to joke a lot on this forum, so I can understand how my comment might be taken the wrong way.
My apologies. In the future I'll be sure to use a ghastly emoticon, or maybe a parenthetical aside (humor).
on the humor note sorry guys if you took me too seriously there its all in good humor and m I remembered it was around one third if it was one fourth ok my bad saying from memory I could have been a lot more off ;)
as for them getting penalized, The Rooster was charged with using two accounts at once (which probably wasnt true but we'll never know). If you use two accounts and you make the same trades, there is the slightest possibility you might affect the price change in your favor (I doubt it but that's the rules). Only one other person much earlier was penalized for the crime but he had like 6 or something accounts all with the same name except a successive different end number, and they made about the same trades (at least according to ppx). No one's quite sure why Mvail was penalized, but it was either because they thought he was using a bot, or he was making trades similar to The Rooster (like they were in cahoots or something).
basically, what m said.
sorry for the bad grammer here m you dont mind me calling you m?

SO BUY SHORT IN ALL 3

Sweet, thanks. These stocks are easily short and there is a lot of money to be made.
No, I don't mind anyone calling me m. After all, that's what they used to call mvail, and if anyone wishes to call me after that great mind, I don't mind that at all :)
Just so you know, also, I know it was a quarter because that's the penalty for a first offense.
@Vulgarian: Not that it matters much, but I think shortly after that article first appeared, in the chatroom we figured out that article was written DragonChi.
(Or maybe sagepanda. It was a while back, and I all can remember was that I associated the username with China, but I'm pretty sure it was DragonChi.)
You can call him "novey" if you want.
I'm sorry- i was on the previous page and didn't realize there were more posts. Just disregard that last post of mine, please.

question from a new guy....
If I hold it short and don't cover before the halt and whatever it is doesn't happen, do I make any money or just lose out like all the longs?
from Shelton, CT
If you own a stock short, and it pays at Zero, you make the difference between what it was at when you bought it and zero.
So if you bought a stock at $40 and it closed at $0 you'd get your original $40 back, plus $40 of profit.
But if it was at $20 when it halted, you already showed $20 of profit in your portfolio at the time of the halt, so you'll only show an extra $20 of profit when it pays.
Don't cover shorts when it's obvious they'll pay short.
from Cookeville, TN
oh, darn. lesson learned I guess. I would have banked on this last iteration.

Covering shorts are just like selling longs.
Just a different way to say sell but for shorts.
Because if you sold your shorts, then you'd be naked, but if you cover them, that's the same as a pair of pants.
I'd like to sell my shorts, but they've been covering my longs and even though they started as mediums they're baggy now.
I heard there was a market in Japan for this sort of thing.
Anybody have a connection with the Far East Skivvie market? I could use some advice...
