its tanking because microsoft has pulled out from trying to take over Yahoo.
So short away.
After Yahoo! still gave MS a hard time about the new offer, MS pulled the new offer as well as the old offer. For now, they are going to focus on their strategy without Yahoo!.
In a way, it's even better for MS. Now Yahoo! stockholders are upset with Yang and other Yahoo officials. They may be much more willing to accept MS's offer next time around (and there very likely will be one again).
But that better not keep MSYHOO from paying out. The 'heart' of the prop was for this time around, even though there wasn't a time limit.

I hope to god ur right, cause i just shorted 1000 stocks of it at 32 bucks on my faith in you all, thx if ur right :-D it still seems to be at a pretty high price so i hope to make a really good profit here. yeehaa
Ok people what is going on

Yeah, seriously. Even with Microsoft pulling out, and it being nigh impossible to pull off a proxy bid win, it's going UP! *sigh*
Well Yahoo stock went down and one of the founders indicated that they were not closing the door on a future Microsoft offer. The rumor is that stockholder dissatisfaction, may cause the stock to fall some more, and that Microsoft will make another play for them.

WOW, i just lost 2k because the stock decided to jump up for like no reason? are there like a crowd of crazy people out there? any possible explanations on this?
Read the post right above yours. Figure it out.

The bigger question: Will it flip again?
from Vancouver, Wa
i'd stick with microsoft originally not saying that they'd buy yahoo at all..... anyway, who reads posts directly above theirs on these thing? =--D btw, i dont think thats a good enough reason for the stock to actually go up, if microsoft says its gonna stock making bids 'officially' doesnt that mean ppx has to make it pay out short? they're not actually gonna wait a coupla years to 'wait and see' even if they didnt actually state a duedate.......
I agree that this stock should pay out short since officially Microsoft closed the book on the deal for this time and for this purposes there will not be a MicroHooYaSoft proxy fight. This is not to say that Microsoft in the future won't come back with an other offer or Yahoo going to Microsoft with it's hat in it's hand asking to be bought. So since the fight is over for now they should close it out short.

Hey I want in if it's as hot as this sounds! I currently am making out like a fat rat from HIGHERGAS stocks. they're guarenteed you know....
Cpt. thats the big issue with open ended stocks. It doesn't give a close date, or a by date so technically it could run until it happens regardless of how long that is (and actually should since it doesn't have an end date). And Microsoft is fairly well known for saying one thing and doing another, If they indicate that they are still interested in Yahoo that would keep the price of the stock artificially inflated, which is what happened when they announced they wanted Yahoo. The price went up hoping that Microsoft would increase their offer, when they pulled out the stock began to drop. Actually the way the Prop is written the only way a short would pay is if Microsoft ceases to exist, or Yahoo is acquired by someone else, otherwise it will only pay off long.
Unless microsoft aquires yahoo through a means other than a proxy fight.
Bill, that would also work, but I think this would cause a huge argument based on whether the intent of the prop was that MS would acquire Yahoo, or that there would be a proxy fight to replace the board, and then MS would acquire Yahoo, although as I read it the latter is the case.
People can't complain too loud- it's the admins that have the final say on payouts.
People can argue all they want but the payout criteria clearly states "This prop will payout at $100 if Microsoft aquires Yahoo through a proxy fight to replace the board of directors." That's a pretty specific requirement, I don't see any wiggle room.
I agree but there have been times when what appears to be very clear suddenly get changed or reinterpreted.

if they even begin to try to make this pay out if microsoft takes yahoo through anything other than a proxy fight, as clearly stated in the prop, heads are going to roll cause it seems clear enough right now what it means. Someone should actually read these props before they get posted to make sure the mean what they say, really
Looks like Carl Icahn is going to make a play to overthrow Yahoo Inc's entire board in a proxy fight, in order to clear the way for a microsoft takeover.
Which means that this stock was de-listed too soon. I don't understand why it was delisted when their was still the possibility of it happening.
Pop Sci once again blows it.
