the numbers from NDP are totally accurate , they are the final results for US sales in January. It should also be noted that final sales results for Q4 2007 show PS3 selling 4.7million and XBOX360 selling 4.3 million.

But how many Wiis or PS2's were sold in Q4 '07? I would wait until at least 2 quarters worth of data showing that PS3 is clearly in the lead before making a decision. It has a long way to go.

Per the questions I asked in my PS3WINS thread (about 5 threads below this one) it depends on if it has to beat both XBOX and Wii, and if it's North America or World Wide.

If PS3 only has to beat XBOX and can do it based on Word Wide sales, well, then it's a done deal. HD-DVD is dead, PS3 has a built-in Blu-Ray player, for the cost of a stand alone Blu-Ray machine for the low end PS3.

In Asia, Europe and Australia PS3 already outsells XBOX and Electronic Arts projections have it continuing to blow XBOX away for the forsee-able future, even in the US.

If the PS3 has to beat both the XBOX and the Wii, well, then I'd say this proposal drops to a 50/50 chance.

wow, i have been saying since the start of the ppx, (refer to epic 500 post thread in previous forum) that the ps3 ppx stock would win. Even with the amount of vocal doubters this stock has risen 20 points in the last week. Still on the rise. It certainly may be due to bluray's victory (which seemed obvious since the beginning didnt it?) but it may also be due to the fact that PS3 outsold xbox360 in january and came within 5 000 of the wii in north american sales. It could also be the killer line-up of games exclusive to the ps3 for 2008. This stock seems like a no-brainer to me, lets see how quickly it goes up. Maybe the PS3 will outsell the wii next month. Its not a longshot really. This stock is an easy 1000 long.

what unboring said was right; PS3 is going to win and will win because of Blu ray. the Blue Ray player Costs Much more than PS3 which has an inbuilt Blue ray Player and Also You can Play...........

the wave is due to the recent bluray victory and possibly due to Q4 2007sales for ps3 and January's impressive numbers (beating 360 and close to beating wii) The sales numbers for febuary could also start another wave if its as good as I suspect they will be. I will post them when I get them.

since I posted this thread it has gone from $12 to $32 and down to 28 where it has held for quite a number of days now. Looks like steady positive growth to me. When the sales numbers come for febuary (and they will be very good like january) and when home is launched this stock will only rise again.

Its been trading between 25 and 30 dollars since bluray won the format war, and ps3 slammed xbox 360 in sales and came within 5 000 units of the Wii sold in the US in January. Did you even know about that?

PS3 outsold 360 in 2007 and this year it will surpass 360 again and will be gaining ground on the Wii.

In part because of Blurays victory over the doomed HDDVD, secondly because of PS3s stellar AAA exclusive title list for 2008 and 2009 .

As of March 13th, the PS3 has outsold the Xbox360 for two consecutive months in a row. The "hyped" crop of PS3 games is due out in a few months (Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4 just came out, etc), Blu-Ray won the format war with help from PS3, now Blu-Ray will return the favor. I already know a number of people who are switching to PS3's from Xbox's due to the fact that it has the Blu-Ray built in, and can play the same games (more or less). Take this in conjunction with the prediction that 40" LCD's will continue to drop in price, making the HD TV more affordable.

Its Econ 101, the complement good's price is decreasing rapidly (HD TVs) therefore the demand for the good will rise. Demand for the competitors goods (Xbox360) has slowed. Wii is still doing strong because its crop of games are just comming out now, wait for the PS3's crop and I expect to see a jump in the price.

@milkweed, at first you said that this proposition would never happen. That was at 12 dollars. From when I started this thread the stock has risen to over 34 dollars. 4 weeks ago you said you wouldnt buy this stock until it stops bouncing. But its held steady for 4 weeks?

The PS3 has massive momentum this year with a AAA exclusive list that is much more impressive and much longer then the two competing consoles. Especially with Blurays victory, you better believe this is a massive year for the console. Outselling XBOX360 on a month to month basis and creeping up on the Wii the PS3 may outsell both consoles 4th quater in 08! let alone 09.

I predict over the next 3months this stock raising over 50 with PS3 continueing its 2008 trend of outselling 360 and creeping up on Wii, due in part to exciting releases like home, grand turismo 5p, grand theft auto, haze and metal gear solid 4. With very strong exclusive system selling games you will see dominating sales numbers. At E3 Sony will announce some crazy stuff, and this stock will raise further. By the end of this year. It should be sitting around 70 dollars, maybe higher.

As I said when I started this thread this stock was and is a great value. the prop is still severly undervalued if you look at the state of the industry.

Looking forward to seeing if my predictions come true. Any other predictions out there.

It makes no sense this prop will come true. The 360 and ps3 are competing for the same market. the wii is dominating the kids/casual market. Remember the ps3 must outsell the other two combined. The ps3 is still incredibly far from meeting this point. The hddvd colapse wont bridge this gap. to me this is a clear short

you're also not reading that it doesn't matter what it's doing now, it's what it's doing in Oct-Dec of 2009. By then the gimmick of the Wii has worn off and their lineup for the next 12 months of games is nothing compared to the lineup for the PS3. So can the PS3 outsell the Wii in total sales between now and the end of 2009? probably not. Can the PS3 be the top selling console for the 3 months that make up the 4th quarter of next year? absolutely.

You hit all the right points ejcassel. Everyone seems to misread this prop.

PS3 only needs to outsell Wii and 360 in 4th quater 2009 (only those 3 months) and not Wii and 360 combined, but it needs to be the number one selling console for those three months.

Now lots of you are overlooking the fact that PS3 is outselling 360 right now as it is. Q1 2008 PS3 will substantial outsell 360.

Really the only questionable part about this prop is whether or not PS3 will outsell the Wii in Q4 2009. The answer is of course yes.

With so many franchise and original ip AAA titles exclusive to PS3 over the next two years and nothing but tired recycled titles and 3rd party shovelware going to the Wii,

as well as the Wii subpar pentium 2 graphics and Low def graphics in an increasinly HD market. As well as PS3's inclusion of the next gen format Bluray.

All signs point to PS3WILLWIN.

The proposition says "either the Xbox 360 OR the Wii". I think this is key to this proposition alone and knowing this, PS3WIN will pay-out as most people have agreed that the PS3 will beat the 360 from here on out. This is another of the props that are poorly worded and generates a lot of confusion (this is one reason why I fell out of contact with the PPX).

For one, the PS3 has the internal Blu-Ray drive. While there is some talk of the 360 releasing an external Blu-Ray drive, this will not greatly help its sales of the base consoles. It is possible that (eventually) Microsoft releases an SKU with a built-in Blu-Ray drive but that will in turn devalue their older models. This may have an interesting effect of selling-off the current models while pushing the Blu-Ray models. I do feel though that an internal Blu-Ray 360 will push it up to (or over) the base price for the 40GB PS3, at which point the PS3 still looks better.

For this, and other reasons, I feel that the PS3 will outsell at LEAST the 360 for Q4 2009.

hey guys...
it will all depend on the lineup of games. if we were to bet on q4 of this year i say 360 all the way b/c of titles like gears of war 2. furthermore if it is family entertainment the wii will always sell more so thats not what the issue is about. what it will come down to is if the ps3 has a better lineup than the 360 in q4 of 09.

Sales of PS3 systems are already dominating the 360, and it's not even close. Sorry nickoboy, but the only hurdle the PS3 has to pass in Q4 of '09 is the Wii. As for the discussion on if it only has to beat one or the other, I believe an admin has ruled that it has to beat both during that quarter. That is the only reason this stock isn't trading at $98 a share, some still wonder if it'll catch the Wii.
