Any odds you could get the system to let people stay logged in and idle without losing access to pages?
I dedicate a browser to my portfolio so it's always available quickly.
With the current setup, it actually makes sense for me to log out to get faster access to my portfolio.
it worked but was quite miserable to do.
Worked first time I tried it, thanks.
It worked great! Thanks very much!
Seems like an awful lot of hoops to jump through to get access. I didn't want to log into the whole site, just my portfolio. Perhaps this is a way of forcing us to look at the rest of the PopSci website.
That seems to fix it , atleast for now. Will I have to go through this everytime I want to check my Portfolio?
I still don't like the fact that we have to preview a post before posting it. I'd rather have an edit function to correct typo's later.
worked for me - thanks!

well, finally this works and it is nice to be able to check up on my portfolio after a week of not being able to sign on, but i can't believe that the solution is for me to sign out and then sign back on each and every time i want to view my portfolio! it seems that a site that is dedicated to science and technology would have a better solution. am i wrong for feeling this way or not?
"Potential" 1- possible as opposed to actual; 2 - capable of becoming. I don't want a "potential" fix, FIX it so it works.
Like I said before, it works. But I found the link posted on another thread to be more useful. I placed it in my bookmarks and click on that when I want to get to my portfolio. Here it is again:

Hope that helps. Consider bookmarking it; it'll save some time off of this method.
Great - seems like most folks can log in now. We're looking into the issue some people seem to be having with the cookie expiring.
FYI - you won't have to do each step of the test process when you want to log in again - no need to log out if you're already logged in now that it's working. That was just to make sure everyone got a fresh start for the test.
Before, using IE7 I had the link in my home page tabs and it worked great, Everytime I logged on to the internet my portfolio page was there ready to be checked.
The link above works great from this page, but when I put it in my home page tabs and bookmarks I still get 'access denied'.
It still doesn't work. I had to go through your whole test process again to see my portfolio. Everything had to be done again exactly like you instructed above in your "test, one time only" post.
Yeah, I figured out how to do this after a few days, but is there any reason that we can't get it set up where we are logged in for a series of days like the system used to do? That was really handy. Also, I would think that instead of putting up a page that says "Access denied!" when we try to get to our portfolio, maybe it can give us a login screen. Also annoying is the fact that it automatically logs me out if I am inactive for a while or using a different computer to access ppx, yet the site does not log me out, which means that to get back in I have to manually log out, then log in, then go back to PPX and finally my portfolio.
I can get to my portfolio by logging in. But if I am inactive for a little while then when I try and refresh the page or to make a trade then I get the dreaded "Access Denied" notice. I log out, then log in again and all is well, for awhile. It's pretty frustrating.
Are there efforts being made to correct this problem or is this something we're going to have to live with (or not).
And, I really don't like the new forum format.
We're checking into why some folks are getting kicked out after a certain period of time.
For those that are experiencing this - after you get "Access Denied" on the PPX end, if you return to www.popsci.com, are you still logged in? Some information there would be helpful in resolving this.
Again, thanks for bearing with us. We're working to get everything right.
In response to John, when I check out my portfolio, then surf the web for some time and then come back to www.popsci.com, I am still listed as being logged in to the site. But, as mentioned before, when I go back to the portfolio I get the "Access Denied" even though it says I am logged in in the top left corner of the site.
worked for me
=)
