The HiRISE camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured this image of the Phoenix Mars Lander parachuting down to the Martian surface on May 25, 2008. It was the first time that a spacecraft imaged the final descent of another spacecraft onto another planetary body. Although it appears that Phoenix is descending into the crater, it is actually about 12 miles in front of the crater.
