Sony PlayStation 3 Motion Controller

First there was the Wii, then Microsoft's full-body-capturing Project Natal grabbed out imaginations. And now -- and not to be left out -- Sony's finalized plans to roll out their own motion-capture system. Sony today at the Tokyo Game Show confirmed their Motion Controller for the PS3 will be available in the spring of 2010 with a baker's dozen of supported games.

The remote-like device, tentatively named just "Motion Controller," works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye to capture movement, voices, and player images. The controller uses two motion sensors, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer -- much like the Wii-mote. That orb up top serves a dual function as a motion tracker and an additional source of in-game visual cues to the player. It has the same rumble pack as DualShock 3 controllers and runs on rechargeable lithium ion batteries.

Sony has also released a more complete list of already-available games that will add motion-control functionality via a network update, including PAIN, Flower, Hustle Kings, High Velocity Bowling, and EyePet. Upcoming games specially designed for motion will include Ape Escape, Echochrome 2, Eccentric Slider, Sing and Draw, Champions of Time, Motion Party, The Shoot, and Tower.

There's no pricing information available yet.

Civilized Games caught Sony's tech demo at the E3 gaming conference a few months back, if you wanna check it out in action.

Wow, it really looks like the wii has expired, the PS3 has really taken motion sensitivity to the next generation.

That tech demo has been out a while now. It's cool, but I really want to see games use it. Demos like that are one thing, applying it to games is another. Hopefully they're more clever than the developers.

I really like to have this Sony PlayStation 3 Motion Controller. For sure this is worth of secured loans to have. Thanks for the video demo, but I’m thinking that the SONY should first release games that will surely make the consumers fall for the Motion Controller. So far the Wii-remote is quite good but it just have limited options. With this Sony PlayStation 3 Motion Controller, I hope it is much better than other remote that recently introduced in the world of gaming technology.
