connect my house lock to a router??? are they insane? u have any idea how often i have to reset my router???

@beefymclovin: Then you're doing it wrong xD . I've never once had to reset my router...ever.

-IMP ;) :)

na they cheapos, set up right but every few weeks the cheap bastards go on strike. just randomly stops the flow of data. refuses to restart the data stream without turning it off first. it happens to everyone around here that i know as well. many of my friends hold compsci degrees and all have told me im set up right when i address the issue with them.

They need to add the normal functionality with a key pad... because.. what if you forgot to take your iphone with you?

I'm guessing the article writer(s) have never seen the Schlage LiNK series? Keypad on outside in case you forget your phone as tennisplayer pointed out, apps for iPhone and Android, $210 at Amazon for starter kit with z-wave router, $145 for additional locks, add-ons for lights, cameras, and action!...er...thermostat controller. $9.95/mo monitoring charge but I'm using Mi Casa Verde Vera2 controller to bridge z-wave devices and x-10 devices into one point. This allows me to monitor on my own without monthly charge and get SMS if something happens.

Slow month, eh? I'm usually fascinated by PopSci galleries, but this one's a little lame.

Looking forward to the August new product gallery and its coverage of flying cars and portable cold fusion generators.

Since /when/ is wifi that much more energy efficient than bluetooth? Lets see... Bluetooth surfing via dun... six hours through the phone. Wifi surfing via router... two hours.
The whole point of bluetooth was its' low-power usage for devices that didn't need to be more than 10 meters away from each other during use.

I find it ironic that this article endorses a password-protected wi-fi lock only 2 days before a separate Popsci article publishes the directions for how to build a DIY drone that hacks wi-fi and cracks passwords.

What I want is the xbox 360's connect hooked up to my door lock ! Then you build a facial library of all of those that visit, then when they ring the bell, a very sexy voice say's something like " Bob and Mary are here".

The absolute last damn thing I ever want to do is give hackers a way to unlock my front door without even touching it. If somebody really wanted to hack my router, they would, and then I'd be screwed. I'll stick to an old-fashioned, highly effective deadbolt, thanks. For that matter, I don't want my car locks networked to anything else, either.

I've never had to reset my router.
