The iPad Mini's Battery iFixit

Our friends over at iFixit got their hands on the new iPad Mini and, as is their wont, tore it to pieces. They say it's not, surprise surprise, particularly well-suited to home repairs or upgrades, relying on glue, hidden screws, and other tricks rather than treats for the repair-minded. They also found, as expected, that the interior of the thing is basically entirely battery. The teardown's still in progress, but you can follow along here.

Isn't this illegal? Did they beg for permission first.

While I know very little about copyright laws, I would hope not. When you buy a good you (at least I hope) own that physical item. Perhaps not the intellectual property it's based on, but the item nonetheless. If I want to smash my iPad I should be allowed to. These guys are just smashing it very slowly in a controlled manner.
