In case you're still confused (because it is confusing): the Microsoft Surface we've been talking about lately is the Surface RT, which is basically like a tablet. The Surface Pro, though it looks pretty much like the Surface RT, has full laptop capabilities, just like any other Windows 8 computer. And Microsoft just announced today that the Surface Pro will cost $900 for the 64GB version and $1000 for the 128GB version--though neither comes with the Touch Cover keyboard, which is pretty much essential, so you can add another $120 to that price. That'll make it more expensive than a Macbook Air. [Microsoft]

Sounds good to me! I'll start saving my pennies. I'll take a Surface Pro over a Macbook Air any day.

GMarsack,
Me too, also, yes and more so, confirmed, ditto-able, agreedishy!
The market is illustrating low for Microsoft Windows 8.
I suppose no one wants to buy another secret beta made public from Microsoft to help pay for the R&D and get to Windows 9 in the future.
Hey Microsoft, we already experience Windows ME and Vista, we do not need to waste our dollars again on Windows 8.
Yes it is your beta system to get the public use to one operating system from smart phones, laptops and the home computer, but is kind of a pain too.
Please just give us a good product that works and is finished.
Buy the way, Windows 7 works pretty good for me, thanks!
I still love ya... kisses.
Hm, a tablet running a new OS that's still working its kinks out, or a full fledged, far more capable, far more powerful laptop running a stable OS for less than the tablet? The Surface does have a nice design and some nice features, but Windows 8 should've been worked on a little longer instead of rushing it out in time for the holiday season.
Or for 200$ more than the 128GB model I can just get a MacBook pro that has useful hardware and software in it. Oh wait, I already did that.
Can't wait to get it !!!
@Blarg_King,
. . . or for $400 less I can get a pretty good Windows laptop that maybe be orders of magnitude more capable than the Macbook Pro. Oh wait, I already have one!
. . . and just in case you forgot, "You can't touch the Macbook Pro!" . . . Which is the whole point of having a fully capable touch tablet. As far as I can tell, there still isn't an Apple tablet that can run OSX 8 (Mountain Lion). It's all cell phone OS Garbage!
That, in it of itself, has Microsoft ahead.
This is the tablet that could very well replace my laptop. It can run Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, and After Effects.
Real work can be done on this tablet. can Apple say this about their iPads?
in order to thank everyone, characteristic, novel style, varieties, low price and good quality, and the low sale price. Thank everyone

Meanwhile, on black friday one apple store recorded selling 11 iPads per hour. On all the stores Microsoft was monitoring nobody bought a Surface RT.
And Menoc, an 800$ laptop is probably not "orders of magnitude better" than a MacBook Pro. I was shopping for a new PC laptop for my brother and I was well into the 1000$ range before I could find one with anything above a Core i3 or Pentium, not to mention with substantial graphics. Plus all those 800$ laptops are cheap plastic things that fall apart. Why was I shopping for a new laptop for my brother? Because his year old laptop completely fried for no reason, and companies like Dell have the worst customer service on the planet.
And why would I want a "touch OS"? There are things better left to a physical keyboard and mouse. Like gaming for instance. Or video editing. Or photo editing.
And one last thing it's OS 10.8 not "OS 8". Please know what your talking about before commenting.
Let's not forget that according to Microsoft, "#Surface pro will have approximately half the battery life of Surface RT.” Which would put it about four hours for battery life. Why would you buy that when you can get a full-fledged laptop with substantially longer battery life for less?
Alex C.,
If you pre-order laptop and pick the hard drive, order an SSD hard drive which is multiples faster than spin hard drives, quiet and naturally extend battery life. An SSD drive will make you laptop or computer feel instantaneous in many ways.
The SSD are still a little pricy and small, but if all you do is browse with your laptop, a small SSD is affordable and works AWESOME!
@Blarg_King,
I can see that you were not reading carefully- or chose to ignore the details. I said OSX 8 (That is: Operating System X Version 8) Did you notice the Roman numeral X in there? Or did you think that was a typo??
. . ."And why would I want a "touch OS?" . . .
That's a pretty dumb statement considering that Windows, OSX, iOS, Android, etc . . . They are all Operating Systems! The difference is that some are dumbed down versions of the full fledged System from which they originated - (Windows RT vs. Windows 8 Pro), (OSX 8 vs. iOS). Again, for the Apple fans, if you're traveling for business and pleasure you need two devices - a laptop and an iPad. The Surface Pro with Windows 8 Pro is both! It replaces your tablet and your laptop. Get it yet?
Can you say that about any apple device yet?
But why on earth do you need two devices? I have a 13" MacBook Pro. Powerful enough to do any computer task, yet small enough that its not a burden to travel with. This "Surface" thing costs more than a MacBook Air, but at least with an Air you get a physical keyboard and a decent CPU and graphics, plus substantial battery life. And by touch OS you know I meant on a full computer system. Its pointless.
@blag_king
The only thing that the mac book air has on Surface Pro is larger screen size and better battery life; other than those few things they both basically have the same specs. The more expensive version of the surface pro is still cheaper than the top end of the Air line. this Laptop replacement is still on par with the more expensive macbook pro version too, as they both have the same gpu and cpu and ram.
Wow.... cannot wait to get one of those Pro version.
The 64 Gigs looks decent enough for me
But wait...wait... I might need to get those anti virus apps, one to prevent worm, one to prevent trojan, one to prevent backdoor (well, it's a tablet with PC capabilities though...one cannot be careless about security)...
Wait, wait, I might need antispyware agents, just to prevent me from being disturbed by those popups... (you can't be careless with your "Windows PC", right)...
Mmm, add up protection from spam. Who knows, on the PC one can spam my e-mail account....
Also, need to install those latest security updates, you can't just leave your system open in the wild, right....
And install those latest software patch, and other patches,and others....
Gosh, system running low on storage... better get the 128Gig instead.....
I use Windows as an OS to run other programs, nothing else. Now, can somebody explain to me the advantages to change from XP to 8?
