Until now, Riyadh's verdant past was confined to the pages of textbooks. Today, that history is coming alive. In 2006, the city sponsored an international competition to design a botanical garden as a gift to Saudi Arabia's recently-anointed leader, King Abdullah. The winning design, a joint venture from British architecture and engineering firms Barton Willmore and Buro Happold, will explore the region's plant life through the ages, taking visitors on a walk millions of years back in time.
Set to open in 2011, the ambitious King Abdullah International Botanical Gardens will attempt to display the diverse array of the region's plant species throughout the past 400 million years in its "paleobotanic" greenhouse. And, as if helping visitors peer into the past isn't enough of a challenge, the garden will also explore the land's potential future. The designers hope to educate visitors about the process and consequences of natural-resource depletion and human-wrought climate change as well as the benefits of
preserving Earth's bounty.
At the heart of the $200-million project is what will be the largest greenhouse in the world. Spanning 20 acres and shaped like two interlocking crescents—a symbol of Muslim faith—the garden will lead visitors through six geological time periods, starting with the Devonian, when life on land was just developing, and ending with the Pliocene, when the Arabian Peninsula was brimming with dense grasslands and gushing rivers. Extinct flora—from the horsetail tree to the leafless Rhynia to the Medullosa shrub—will be represented with models and closely related modern species. (Outside the greenhouse, guests can view a smattering of exhibits, fountain areas and tree mazes at the scientific, "wadi" and water gardens.)
Jatropha as biofuel... the seeds are highly toxic, when made into a fuel will it put toxins in the air?
Biofules will creat more problems than what its worth. We need a limitless source of energy. Like the Searl Effect discovered by John Roy Robert Searl in 1946. Vacuum energy is another truely free energy for everyone to benifit humanity. Biofule will be the same as oil allowing the wealthy and fortunate ones to continue their current life style of unabated by their dreadful decisions. With all that corn you can feed a large population.. its ashame its a gift to a learder and not the gift to its poeple
By the way it should of been called Arabian Peninsula’s
better yet Arabian Peninsula’s International Botanical Gardens
If you even knew what you were talking about there are different ways to come by biofuel. one of the biggest ways is to grow algae that uses the sun and the carbon dioxide in the air(which is damaging the ozone) to feed. that is probably the biggest plan out there. watch the movie fuel and learn somethings. so before you think that it takes just some feed crop to make do some research.
Ok your talking about reducing carbon dioxide by growing algae. I'm talking about free energy that is unlimited literally tap into the surrounding universe for unlimited amounts of useful energy. energy that can be used for ever and ever biofule is a waste of time a waste of what ever plants they use for it i dont think UFOs travel on biofules.
Experimentally, the emphasis has been to demonstrate an energy device whose power output exceeds the power input as measured through conventional methods. The quest of such a device has been pursued -- with some success -- by dedicated and innovative researchers, including Tesla, Moray, DePalma, Newman, Boyer, Puthoff, Fleischmann, Pons, Bearden, Graneau, Patterson, Ward, Searl and many others."
For two people that are trying desperately to come off as being even moderately intelligent, you fail miserably. If you're going to act like you know something, please learn to spell, punctuate, or use proper grammar when doin so.
yes but how close are we? and how much cleaner is biofuel than fossil? hmmmm? not to mention the algae will clean the environment. but i get what ur saying and i do agree and u never know ufos might be running on fry oil. course they might have never gone the way of combustion, they couldve had animals that they engineered to be used to go into space and then travel through it. course that could be considered biofuel, since they animals are biological. just saying.
um for some one who doesnt matter i didnt know that u were the grammar police. o yes i dont use caps, and i wrote the shorthand u. cause i dont care. so bite me.
my GREEN N' SMART seal of aproval goes to jatropha biodiesel. why?
1. crop density. the fuel per acre per year will rival algae, which is still experimental.
2. doesn't take up crop land, unlike anything to produce ethanol, except cellulosic ethanol(which we can't do easily yet)
3. you don't have to brew or distill it, which saves a lot of energy.
4. energy density. everyone knows that diesel packs more punch per gallon than anything else.
5. no mods. little or no modification to use on current diesel vehicles.
P.S. why can't we creationists have quarter billion dollar botanical garden in the middle of a desert?
Well even though im 15. I see that MONEY is slavery just to keep humanity doing things that they don’t want to do. It doesn't provide incentive. Because when I was 1 to 8 I didn't know what money was I did things, fun things projects because I wanted to because it made me feel good to draw and do cool things with other children and be inquisitive about the world around us and how nature and the world works. and what I am seeing here is that your are afraid of free unlimited energy where a car wouldn’t need bio-fuel or any kind of fossil burning fuels where a state a nation doesn’t need to be nuclear powered or other power plants that destroys the environment you don’t want this because it threatens you as a businessman of an oil industry of a bio-fuel industry or whatever economically based industry your running. afraid that you’ll be out of a job but I see it as an opportunity to learn new things if we have an energy that is unlimited we can apply that energy in everything we use from cell phone to spaceships we will never need batteries which pollutes the earth we wouldn’t need tons of oil spill on our oceans we wouldn’t need to dig a huge hole in yucca mountain to put in nuclear waste planes would be run by this technology to travel without noise and or destroying our atmosphere we would make boast safe for our waters we would be able to clean all the plastic from our oceans extremely cheap if you don’t believe me and sit here reading this and laughing mocking my spelling and my grammar than your not really getting what I am trying to say you’re trying to preserve and old way of oppressing humanity to clean your dishes at a restaurant or do the jobs that not even you want to do we need to find the solution to our crisis by using these kinds of technologies. Economy is threatened by technology because technology will free humanity from being subservient to someone else we have robots that can clean floors we have robots that can interact with their environment we need to get them out there to free us from monotonies we need those robots to clean and cook and do the dirty things that humans are forced to do I don’t have a problem if you find passion cleaning and or cooking but you have to admit that when you go to a restaurant you don’t know how clean your food is or whose making it but if a robot is programmed to make the food for you that robot would be sterile at all time always self cleaning its self .. I have read that there’s nano-technology that can be spread on a wall and paint your walls different colors or they can act as a TV and show crystal clear images but I’m talking about is free energy for everyone
1 it can help underdeveloped countries from cutting down trees to burn for heat
2 it will eliminate the use for fossil fuels and bio fuels
3 new technologies will arise do to unlimited energies
4 bringing an end to the economy so there wouldn’t any need for economic careers
5 there wouldn’t be any need for politician’s since technicians scientist is always solving problems by finding the technical solution to problems
6 it would free humanity from menial labors
7 crimes and war would be long gone
8 religions would lose power over its people
please try to undrestand what i am trying to say thank you
Earthx, what is this "free energy"? I have seen no evidence of it. Correct me if I am wrong, but this seems to violate the laws of physics. If it did exist, then people would be fighting like mad to get it. That would be a great economic boon to someone, just like oil was to the first people who thought to drill. Right now, we use oil because it is cheaper than any other alternative. Money is not an oppressor, it is a motivator. How would people be motivated to be productive and innovative without a reward? Would you throw people in jail for not working? Without motivation, society stagnates.
Americans should get free lifetime passes and hotel/airfare to this thing since we paid for it with $4 - $5 gas for nearly a year.
If you don't care -- why did you bother posting? It takes far longer to read anything that doesn't use standard grammar or spelling. That may not matter for personal correspondence. It does matter when you're posting to a public site; where hundreds, or even thousands of people may be exposed to your post.
My reaction? I don't care to waste the time it would take to decipher your shorthand, non-standard grammar, and poor spelling.
I wonder how many people you can feed with the food from a greenhouse that big? I bet the people of Saudi Arabia would love ther new king more if he used it to feed anyone who needs food over there then make a "Jurassic Park".
well if you want more information heres a video that will explain more of what i am trying to say for you non belivers
Brooklyn Eagle July 10, 1932 Nikola Tesla states:
I have harnessed the cosmic rays and caused them to operate a motive device. Cosmic ray investigation is a subject that is very close to me. I was the first to discover these rays and I naturally feel toward them as I would toward my own flesh and blood. I have advanced a theory of the cosmic rays and at every step of my investigations I have found it completely justified. The attractive features of the cosmic rays is their constancy. They shower down on us throughout the whole 24 hours, and if a plant is developed to use their power it will not require devices for storing energy as would be necessary with devices using wind, tide or sunlight. All of my investigations seem to point to the conclusion that they are small particles, each carrying so small a charge that we are justified in calling them neutrons. They move with great velocity, exceeding that of light. More than 25 years ago I began my efforts to harness the cosmic rays and I can now state that I have succeeded in operating a motive device by means of them. I will tell you in the most general way, the cosmic ray ionizes the air, setting free many charges ions and electrons. These charges are captured in a condenser which is made to discharge through the circuit of the motor. I have hopes of building my motor on a large scale, but circumstances have not been favorable to carrying out my plan.
New York American November 1st, 1933
Device to Harness Cosmic Energy Claimed by Tesla:
"This new power for the driving of the world's machinery will be derived from the energy which operates the universe, the cosmic energy, whose central source for the earth is the sun and which is everywhere present in unlimited quantities."
Dr. Puthoff is currently the Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Austin, Texas, a position held for more than 10 years. He is considered one of the premier theoretical physicists in the field of vacuum zero point energy and has published several of the seminal papers in the area.
Prof. John Searl is the ONLY man in history to have built and flown an antigravity device called a LEVITY DISC , now called Inverse-G-Vehicle.
This was recorded by the BBC News and by the Newspapers. The BBC ran a weekly piece on Prof. Searls work and progress for almost a year. These Television broadcasts showed the Levity Disc in flight and gave updates on the work being done to build a large craft. There were articles and pictures in the Sunday Mirror on November 28'th 1971, Derby shire District and The Hants and Berks Gazette in 1969. There were pictures taken by John Hocknell Press Photographer which accompanied press write up by Phil Sanders on July 4'th 1969. There were many pictures and write-ups done on Prof. Searl during this time.
The power source for this amazing disc can also be used to generate electricity with no apparent input from outside. Because of the obvious economical repercussions to the big money oil industries, this marvelous invention was squelched.
The Motionless Electromagnetic Generator (MEG)
Has produced up to 100 times more power than was input, by extracting free energy from the vacuum. The MEG has been independently constructed, and its overunity performance independently replicated, by other researchers. US Patent awarded March 26, 2002. Invented by Tom Bearden and four colleagues.
Prof. Searl has offered this wonderful boon to all mankind since 1946. The story of his hardships and persecution is a long one. Long after most men would have given in to the pressures of big business and corrupt government officials he has come back one last time to offer this inspired work to the world.
The Searl Effect Generator (SEG) is a magnetic prime mover that operates with no friction. The SEG generates electricity that is capable of supplying power to the home or industry. When used in an Inverse-G-Vehicle, the SEG generates a gravitational field around the craft which can be directed for flight.
If we the people of the world choose to use this marvelous technology, we could eliminate pollution from the internal combustion engine and the various methods of home and industrial heating. Anything that can be run electrically can be driven by an S.E.G. with virtually no pollution and no use of fuel as we know it.
Prof. Searl uses existing physics laws in a new application. He has written a series of books on his work and is offering them to the public. His technology is based on a coherent number system called THE LAW OF THE SQUARES. His books have the same name.
We should not let the corruption of a certain few deny us of a chance to heal our earth and advance technologically. This may be our last chance.
Most of us are aware of the hole in the Ozone layer above the earth. We also know of the mass destruction of the Rain Forests. We read about the nuclear waste from our power plants and its very long half life. We see our factories belching smoke and our rivers and lakes being polluted. We know about acid rain and dead lakes.
These things seem far away from our everyday life. Most things still seem normal to us in our day to day lives. But one day we might wake up to the fact that we are too late to repair the damage done to our environment.
The Earth will survive. The Human Race may not.
justin_thompson is this e-nof evidence for you or do you need more.. And they wouldn’t be fighting like mad because it will be given freely to everyone of the human race. THIS WILL BE Free energy for humanity. Like i said MONEY IS SLAVERY MONEY HAS NO VALUE WHATS SO EVER JUST FORCESES HUMANS TO DO THINGS THAT THEY DONT WANT TO DO THESE TECHNOLOGIES WILL FREE HUMANITY AND END ECONOMY AND THERE WILL BE ABUNDANCE and war would end you won’t have to fight to protect your economic investment. YOU will see that we will live a more evolve state of being you can’t suppress these energies from us your not any different than me the only difference between you and me is that your trying to preserve an old way of life. We have to raise our level of consciousness and see that what they are doing is inhuman by suppressing these technologies. It’s my right like your right like everyone here on earth to demand to stop the suppression of these technologies.
justin_thompson How would people be motivated to be productive and innovative without a reward? It’s just a sad and a negative perspective to assume that a person must b motivated forced into doing anything, is just absurd. As time goes on in our system as self-motivation is stripped away from people as they are forced to conform to a labor system in order to survive. Self accomplishment you feel proud that you did something amazing that will benefit others and you as well. To know that you have contributed to everyone and teaching others what you have learned so everyone can understand your achievement, as you would be proud of your neighbor for accomplishing something amazing that has made life better and easier and why because we are no longer run by economy because the earth is infinitely powered because we have placed robots to serve us a free us from dish washing garbage picking where garbage is broken down to its smallest subatomic level and reused to create other things where public transportation would be automated where food would be grown organically or cloned where food would be replicated and we would have time to explore other amazing projects that will stimulate the mind where we would truly colonize other planets and make peaceful contact with other beings and discover infinite possibilities always evolving always movies forward in light love harmony and peace because we are all one we are all connected we are all made up of the same thing
Earthx, your arguments have several flaws. One, if this device truly had no friction, word of it would have spread like mad, and it would be everywhere by now. Everything has friction, so this device is either a lie or someone is deeply mistaken.
Two, you assume naively that people will always work towards the common good. This idea has been tried many times throughout history and has failed because of people's laziness and/or self-interest. The economy is just a way to harness the latter to move everyone forward. Accomplishment takes work, and too many would rather be free loaders than feel any accomplishment. I have seen this myself too many times to believe in Utopia.
Three, the rest of your second reply is incoherent. You go from railing about people "stuck" in jobs they hate (they are always free to quit and start their own business) to talking about subatomic garbage disposal. If you want anyone to take your arguments seriously, they need to be put together well.
then dont read it. there are plenty of people that will. i do not care about one person not reading it trying to make me feel bad about something. but you have obviously read it, you did comment about it. so i say ha to you.
basic law of physics:
energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
altho... energy can be changed from one form to another.... so tell my how any type of generator could produce more energy than what is put into it?
ps. No one every saw this theoretical device of John Searl, though one of his sons was interviewed once and told he had helped his dad hang discs from wires so they could be photographed :)
I think it's great that Saudi Arabia is trying to raise public awareness of the consequences of climate change. It just seems pretty ironic to me, though, when you consider that most of the wealth of the country is the result of selling petroleum. Am I being too cynical to wonder if they'd close this exhibit if it led to people drastically curtailing their driving habits, practicing conservation at home, and developing new forms of alternative energy that might cut into the Saudi Royal family's profits? Forget biofuels -- it the Saudis and most other Middle Eastern countries want to transition into a green economy, it would seem they have an obvious answer... solar. Saudi Arabia has vast uninhabited stretches of land, such as the Empty Quarter, which are useless for anything other than soaking up the ample sun that shines down unhindered by rain or clouds over 90% of the time. Think about what a few hundred square miles of solar arrays could do in an area like that, provided they invested in a good power distribution network.
Well justin_thompson your pessimism isn’t contributing anything to society. Instead of discussing how flawed my way of thinking is. You should try to help me out by building a better world. Because I don’t want to continue living is the same system anymore. I want an upgrade to a much more current system. That will allow human freedom with our level of technology and free energy that’s we have today and that a lot of it is being suppressed.
i am trying to better my grammer
Look buddy, I respect your dedication to the betterment of man kind, but at 15, you might not have a solid grasp on the laws of thermodynamics. The searl effect device (and all perpetual motion machines) clearly violates the first law, conservation of energy. The laws of physics prevent any closed system to output more energy than what is present at it's initial state, even the most extreme example, anti-matter/matter annihilation adheres to these basic principals.
We should instead focus on realistic, physically plausible ideas.
"The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine." -- Nikola Tesla
Oh, and before you say that it takes energy from the surrounding environment, clarify what energy, and don't say vacuum energy, because the searl effect device is not orientated properly to even produce the phenomenon that represents vacuum energy. Seriously, this is non-peer reviewed pseudo-science. Don't be dragged in by these crazy perpetual motion machines and conspiracy theories. Focus instead on your education and maybe one day you'll be able to make a real contribution, one that isn't a hoax designed to enthral the gullible
"The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine." -- Nikola Tesla
Well I've actually been to Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and lived in the Kingdom for a year. Saudi is a country that outlawed public slave auctions in 1964. They had public riots in which civilians were shot dead in the streets when "the Television" was introduced in 1966. The Greenhouse? When finished, will have days when a family can attend, ie the women, and the children usually with one male bodyguard servant in tow. (Women are never allowed out in public unescorted and must always where the black Berka/Abayah full head to toe and face covered outfit.) Then on other days, males, usually the husbands (who may have up to 3 wives by Koranic law) and single males may visit. Saudi is a gender segregated society where most men marry their first cousins in arranged marriages as per 200 year old tradition, that they are actually proud of. One in three Saudi hold jobs while the rest of the country lives off the government oil revenue. Work gets performed by foreign workers imported from poverty stricken third world countries like India, Bangladesh, and the Sudan. Are there still REAL slaves in Saudi Arabia? Yes. Are there pseudo-slaves who work for next to nothing, have no rights and cannot leave for fear of death? Yes. Despite the grand Billion dollar public works Gardens, Expressways, Malls and ports designed to be focal points to demonstrate how modern KSA is to the west; Saudi Arabia is a Country whose law is literally "The Koran" and the writings of Mohammad. To say it's a place where there are inbred ignorant desert tribesmen are being drug screaming and kicking into the twenty first century would be an understatement. Perhaps with all the oil money and religious fervor they could create a Garden in which human rights and a semblance of a work ethic might grow, if watered with compassionate love and Justice and exposed to the sunlight of truth. Right now today, the gardens in Saudi Arabia only grow pretty flowers and another generation of zombie like terrorists, intent on killing anybody, including other moderate Muslims who disagree with there agenda. Ask Salmon Rushdee. As for the development of ground breaking technological alternative green energy resources to meet the needs of a fast growing world? These folks seem more likely to cling desperately to their eighth century old social structure while burning up as much petroleum as they and the rest of the world can consume.
dude can u make this article any longer. granted i think this is cool but i loose attention fast
wow, amazing things
I like the idea of how it will educate us on paleobotanics, but I just don't see building a greenhouse in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert.
I don't know.
