In the PASSCRX stock, the payout is an average MPG over 50. The VeeDub TDI's have been offering that for years. Am I missing something here?

It has to be this year model or newer.

I thought they did have some in the lineup this year. At least the Jetta, and I know the 2008 Jetta will have an improved version this fall.

In terms of fuel efficiency, and clean emissions when run on biodiesel or SVO/WVO, TDI engines are among the best on the market. This is often overlooked because they do not drive on gasoline. As an example, a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 1.9L TDI with 5-speed manual achieves 5.2l/100km (54 mpg UK or 45 mpg US) on the European combined-cycle test while a DSG automatic reaches 5.9l/100km (48 mpg UK or 40 mpg US).

This is what i got off the WIKI site, 1.9 does not do good as compared to smaller engines -If they sold a 1.5l TDI engine it could get way above 50MPG

The previous gen tdi engines didn't sell well because people saw they had only 90 hp, but they don't realize hp is nothing without torque, and the old 1.9 had 177 ft. lbs. of that. The new engine is 140 hp, and 235 ft. lbs (edmunds.com). I hope it does break 50 mpg, I went long on this.

Can anyone think of a reason this is still going down? It isn't moving in the normal wave riding manner?

You knew this was coming . . .

This thread has been copied to the PASSCRX thread on the old forum, which is much nicer.

Here is a link to the PASSCRX thread on the old forum, which contains two pages of useful opinions and data:

Please support the transition to the old, nicer forum by making any further posts on this topic there

Thanks!

Obviously you guys need someone to help write these things so that they are understandable and have definable conditions which can be measured to determine the success or failure. I will be happy to give you a quote.

PASSCRX is so badly worded that it either should not pay at all, or should pay off as soon as the first 50mpg motorcycle or scooter is sold.

As it is worded, it's useless.

"This proposition will pay out at POP$100 if any 2008 production car-hybrid, plug-in-electric or any other type of vehicle available for purchase in North America in numbers greater than 1,000 models-achieves a higher gas mileage than the 1987 Honda Civic CRX. "

"...any other type of vehicle..." my bicycle gets infinite gas mileage, my canoe, rowboat and _____, likewise.

"...available for purchase in numbers greater than 1,000 models.."
Sure, it's a typo--in what would be a legal document if this were a real exchange. If you're going to pretend to run it like a real exchange then for God's sake DO IT!

No manufacturer of gasoline powered vehicles has 1,000 models, and none ever will have 1,000 models that fulfill the requirements. If what was meant was "...available for purchase in numbers greater than 1,000." I can pretty much guarantee that anyone building any vehicle would be happy to build 1,000 of them if the demand were there--they aren't airplane seats or some similarly limited commodity.

For a company filled with writers, you seem to have a great difficulty in writing clearly. Perhaps you need to sic your attorneys on the problem--they know how to write this stuff.

Had we started building Solar Power Satellites in 1977, when we knew it could be done, 120% of America's electrical power would be using NO fuel, producing trivial waste, including greenhouse gases.

I think your first point was mentioned on the old forum. One of the admins came on and said they would judge it on the spirit of the prop, so vehicle means car.

As for your second one, you have a point "1,000 models" seems to mean 1,000 different types of cars which doesn't make sense but come on. The reason for the 1,000 is so that some company doesn't make a limited edition of 100 or 200 or 999, over 1,000 would be getting into a more mass-production

1000 models , they actually meant a production run of at least 1000 cars made of that certain model

Are the Apteras, both plug-in-only and Plug-in-plus-in-line-hybrid considered, for the purposes of this proposal, cars or motorcycles?

this is what i copied out of the old forums-- about aptera

The Aptera factory is not set up to produce 1000 cars in 2008, and it is licensed as a motorcycle

What's the deal? The 2008 Civic Hybrid gets 4.3/4.7 L/100 KM which is 50+ MPG... It's widely available, not a diesel (since evidently they don't count)... I'm not sure how/ why this hasn't paid out?

where is the link that provides the info?

Maybe the link is in his pocket, or in the top shelf of his dresser, or underneath his bed, or in a safe deposit box. Really, it could be anywhere, maybe not even in his possession.

Here is the link:

http://honda.ca/HondaCA2006/Models/CivicHybrid/2008/Specs?L=E

Scroll to the very bottom, it's the last item.

The US mileage is less than what you calculated based on Canada's numbers. I believe either that you did not do the conversion right or that the US and Canada figure mileage a bit differently which is likely. Here is the specs for the US, copied from Honda's US website.

"You'll feel the benefits of the refined gasoline-electric powertrain on the Civic Hybrid right there in your wallet at fill-up time. And with an EPA-estimated city/highway rating of 40 city/45 hwy mpg,* you won't have to stop for quite a while."

Why the sudden movement on PASSCRX? I don't see anything in the news.

it's closing on friday at $100 so buy now.

for full details, go to the general ppx discussion section and a few threads down is PASSCRX which explains the situation more.
