Are you going to let us test run this, so we can give our input before June 1st?

If not, can you give us more detail about how this is going to be played.

Do we get popsci bucks?

can we bet against other players?

If this "quiz game" blows, can we get something else?

how cute, you still believe that they actually care what we want, and or think.

"how cute, you still believe that they actually care what we want, and or think."

Actually, I know they don't care, but I figured I would ask anyways.

My impression is they do care, but they've been limited in what they can do about problems because of the way the game was originally set up.

PopSci staff can't directly control this game. Everything from bug fixes to starting, halting, closing and paying stocks has to be requested by PopSci staff, but the actual work is done by "the developers".

Part of the problem is the developers are on the west coast, but popsci admins are on the east coast. If a news event happens after PopSci staff has gone home for the day, the next opportunity they have to contact the developers to make something happen is at Noon EST the next day.

So the popsci staff and the staff of the company that actually runs the software can only "talk to each other" for 25 or 30 of the 168 hours in a week.

That was a goof, but it happened 2 years ago, and once it was made, they were stuck with it.

Did PopSci make other mistakes? Sure. But none of us are perfect, and whenever I've contacted admins about problems, I've found they've been friendly and helpful.

I've also found they were frustrated when they couldn't make things happen fast enough.

I'm sorry to see the game ending, but I thank PopSci for making ppx happen.

Visit www.ppxchat.com A great place to meet PPXers and learn strategy.

Taylor doesn't care about PPX anymore. She probably gets off on draggin' people along just for the fun of it and pretending to care. That said Taylor is just a little bitch.

There is no reason to say bad things about people. The end of the site is a sad thing but there is no reason to do anything worse than that.

You might want to think about what your saying, BEFORE you post a strong comment like that.

arkadi:
Well, you jumped ahead of me... way ahead... awesome job:)

What's the difference? The website's going down the tubes and Taylors just jerkin' us along with new props. What the heck is the point THE SITE IS SHUTTING DOWN!!

Congrats mg., you've handled the shutting down of this game with about as little class as possible.

Nice.

Why, thank you chefboiaarni!

Overall I'm just very pist off that PPX jerks us along for two years with countless problems and issues(props payin' out half a year late.)They don't tell us PPX was only gonna last two years(this is what Taylor said just recently.) They hype up the Leagues, yet their a dissapointment. I stayed with PPX expecting it to get better, but they simply let us down by shutting PPX down. Thus the last two years were in a way...a waste of time.

Plus the lazy-ass moderators don't even have the guts to reply to messages and to forum posts.

I agree with the majority of your points, mg. On too many occasions, PopSci has shown us how NOT to run programs or handle situations.

BUT, it has still been a fun game, and there's no need for any of us to act like loud, obnoxious, deadbeat New York sports fans.

I say, keep the positivity going while ENJOYING the negativity!

As a New York sports fan, I'd like to point out that while we are loud and obnoxious, we are not deadbeats. Would deadbeats pay $9 for a beer and $25,000 for a ticket? NO! The word for that is sucker, not deadbeat.

Touché.

I don't care WHAT Taylor says about you Stuart, you are a funny guy.

48 hours(ish) and counting... I'm going to miss ppx.

They will probably kill off the game but the forums might live on, they haven't even killed off the old forums (which were so much better, and the the move from them to what we have here really signaled the end of good debate and discussion in the forums. for those interested check them out, they show PPX in its glory days.

I agree with many. It was a fun run. I only joined a few months ago, but have become addicted just the same. It was a great way to stay on top of current events, and a good excuse to dig a little deeper on topics. I think it sucks that PPX is kind of ripped out from under us, but we didn't pay for this. This was a FREE service. As such, aside from our time and efforts, we have little to complain about... be upset and frustrated, yes, but absolutely no need to personally attack anyone over this. Cheers to all... < 48 hours ...

Hey, anyone know if they are going to reward the top person in the contast this month (it happens to be me right now)??

jsnickle,

Congratulations on being the top player.
Unfortunately, they stopped the contest a few months ago, so now you have another thing to be "upset and frustrated" about.
Cheers to you!

Aadailey, thank you for your kind words (05/25/09 at 2:28 am), sorry for the belated reply.

A general question:
should not USMPG close long - or am I missing something? I probably do.

Well then they should have not allowed me to register for the contest 40 days ago! What a con. Guess I could have figured that out by the fact that they posted the upcoming prizes for Jan, Feb, and March! Hey, at least I got to show my wife what a nerd I am by having my name at the top of a pop-sci fake stock futures exchange market contest for a few days!

Maybe they should offer the die-hards some free mags for their continued patronage!

Not sure if I will be playing any of this Quiz thing. Like everyone here isn’t going to use the web as a reference tool. Not exactly long-term engaging, is it. I guess we’ll see. Cheers back!

So, When is the replacement 'Quiz' thing coming out

June 2012: Invent Your Own Anything

The 6th annual Invention Awards are here, from an inflatable tourniquet to a better lobster trap to spring-loaded hocket skates. This issue is all about the celebration of invention.

Plus: Making synthetic biology breakthroughs in a garage, building a constantly-moving ping-pong table, and a ridiculously overpowered barbecue.
