"Will Skype buy itself back from eBay?"

When eBay purchased Skype for $2.6 billion in 2005, many observers said it was a match made in internet heaven. Skype would help eBay develop seller/buyer communication packages, and eBay would use its money and power to shield Skype from the vicissitudes of a volatile VOIP marketplace. Now, according to The New York Times, Skype wants to go all Olaudah Equiano and buy itself back from eBay. The move comes as Skype spreads its VOIP services to mobile devices like the iPhone and Blackberry, and as eBay realizes an auction service doesn't really have much use for a phone company. EBay wants $1.7 billion for the company's freedom, and might also try to sell Skype to another company, rather than simply having Skype repurchase ownership of the company.

This prop will pay out POP$100 is Skype buys its ownership back from eBay before October 1st, 2009.

Anyone else see a small typo?

Should "is" be if Taylor?

How about:

"This prop will pay out POP$100 if the original founders of Skype are successful in buying Skype back from eBay, with or without the help of additional private investors, before October 1st, 2009."

Hey downvirus-- good catch.

berneburg-- I think the original wording would still pay out long even if private investors were involved. If Skype buys itself back, the way in which it does that won't affect the payout.

Thanks!

Taylor
