IPO: THERAPIST

"Will the Watson computer beat a human on Jeopardy?"

It's the game show that IBM has recently designed a computer to compete in. What is Jeopardy? That's right, over 10 years after Deep Blue beat Gary Kasparov at chess, IBM engineers want to take down some more humans. The computer, called Watson, represents a leap in artificial intelligence technology, and was designed to test out a range of new software. In particular, software that understands the nuance of human language, and the abstract ideas behind it, has proven exceedingly difficult to design. With Watson, IBM hopes they have cleared that hurdle. For the show, the computer will not be attached to the Internet, instead relying on a database designed by the creators. This development also explains why Skynet answers everything in the form of a question.

This prop will pay out POP$100 if Watson beats a human on Jeopardy by May 1st, 2010. This prop can be checked at http://www.sonypictures.com/tv/shows/jeopardy/.

I like this one as is.

When life gives you to many Apple IPO's make Apple sauce, now where did I put that blender?

CplLenny; anyone ever point out that your tag line, "When life gives you to many Apple IPO's", it implies you are being offered up as a sacrifice, slave, or spouse to Apple?

I think you mean "When life gives you TOO many Apple IPO's".

Just a thought.

Taylor; just for clarity's sake, Watson doesn't have to win, just come in second or better (since there are three contestants), right?

And this match is going to be on a level playing field, right? No topics like "Sequences in Pi" or "Calculate Probability"? (I know it's nit picking, but when Kodos was on all the stuff was about life in other galaxies....)

Hey V,

Right, Watson doesn't have to win, just beat a human (so second or better).

I assume it's a level playing field!

Thanks,

Taylor
