Are you guys serious? There's no need to berate the admins. You'll catch more flies with honey. As other posters pointed out, we do not work on the weekends, so you'll see halts either on Fridays or Mondays. And as stated in many other threads, if you don't feel you're getting the attention you require, please email us at webmaster@popsci.com.

There are only THREE of us, and we are responsible for putting out all the content on the site. Every article, every photo gallery, every video, AND PPX. It's not that we're not interested and engaged: there's no giant corporate machine running this, we do it because we think it's fun, and yes, because it drives traffic to the site (duh). So cut us some slack and drop the conspiracy theories.

Thanks,

Megan

Thank you

And please consider a volunteer moderator or two to help you with these forums... the flames are taking over

Megan,
First I would like to say that for a staff of three you guys are doing a great job. I think that if you read through the threads you'll find that I've been, for the most part, one of the most vocal advocates of civil posting and have been very much against criticism just for the sake of criticism. Perhaps I've been too vocal and am one of the people that you've threatened to ban for slamming others, I don't know. Anyway, my position is on the record as being against any threads containing the word "bozo" unless a prop is introduced that involves a clown. However, regardless of my feelings, I am concerned that a post was deleted based on the fact that it contained criticism of the admins. While it might be appropriate in this case, I wonder if it doesn't set a dangerous precedent in a forum that is supposed to allow the free exchange of ideas. Anyway, this is just an initial reaction to this thread and might not be the way I feel after some reflection. Again I think you guys are doing a geat job, and I hope this in itself isn't taken as criticism.

Only three of you for the WHOLE SITE? Wow. You all have my utmost respect.

I'll volunteer to be a forum moderator if you'd like.

I'll volunteer, but I'm not sure I have the qualifications. I do spend a lot of time in the forums, though.

I cannot volunteer because the only thing I know how to do on a computer is type. I think Dr. Huxtable is correct when he pointed out that a deletion of a thread is worrisome. I think that a forum associated with Popular Science should be a place to openly express your feelings. I also think that these forums should steer clear of negative comments. Its a fine line but your decisions should always lean towards the freedom of speech aspect. I am 95% positive that this forum's behavior will improve as of today. Boppity-Boop...

I'm all for freedom of speech and saying what's on your mind and having a free exchange of ideas but is there any good that comes out of trashing someone? Dissent should not be restricted but saying "I don't like what you're doing, here are 5 ways to make your site better" is a lot more productive and in the spirit of free exchange of ideas than "I don't like what you're doing, you're an idiot."

Apparently some people don't like Popsci making money from ad revenue... What should I think? Only communists can run predictions exchanges?

Rather than ever complaining about this FREE service, if I reach a point where this is no longer enjoyable, I'll stop messing with it. I think it's ridiculous to gripe and whine that your every whim isn't being met, or the admins don't bow and grovel at your feet - WHEN YOU ARENT PAYING A DIME. Sheesh!

This is just one more in a long line of symptoms that describe the Modern American Entitlement Syndrome.

Hey admins - You're doing a great job! I find PPX to be very enjoyable and relaxing, and I make sure I check out the links to your advertisers every time I log in.

I honestly don't care if this is all about revenue, as I am having a good time. If they profit off of my stay, who cares?

Milkweed110 is right on the money. I mean if a person goes to a carnival and rides all the rides and enjoys himself yet pays a small price. The person riding the rides will not really care about the revenue gained by his stay. If only three people are working on this site, you are doing an amazing job. I'll volunteer, but I'm not sure I have the qualifications. I am in &out of PPX so I can help once in a while.

I'll volunteer. Considered I have no life other than reading these forums, playing COD4 on Live, and WoW. I've got other qualifications as well. Available upon request.

Unfortunately, my suggestion for volunteer moderators seems to have more of a following amongst players than admins.

I too am amongst those willing to help.

John, Megan, rabbit - there are plenty of quality people willing to help you make things easier.

June 2012: Invent Your Own Anything

The 6th annual Invention Awards are here, from an inflatable tourniquet to a better lobster trap to spring-loaded hocket skates. This issue is all about the celebration of invention.

Plus: Making synthetic biology breakthroughs in a garage, building a constantly-moving ping-pong table, and a ridiculously overpowered barbecue.
