In the new James Bond movie Skyfall, the Aston Martin DB5--a rare but staple race car in the spy fiction series since 1964--explodes into smithereens. We'll spare you the cinematic details, but take heart, auto aficionados. The real DB5 is safe.
A Bavarian 3-D printing company called voxeljet made three meticulously accurate 1:3 scale models of the classic vehicle, layer-by-layer. Each fake car (below) is made of 18 transparent plastic parts printed out of PMMA by voxeljet's high-end VX4000 printer, a machine that can make objects as large as 13 feet by 6.5 feet by 3 feet.
From there a British prop-making company called Propshop Modelmakers assembled the models and applied realistic finishing like paint, chrome polish, and even bullet holes to match different car chase scenes in Skyfall.
Only 1,021 real Aston Martin DB5s were manufactured between 1963 and 1965, and the cameo car in the James Bond movie Goldfinger was recently valued at $2.6 million.
The models themselves aren't cheap, either. Although one of the models met a fiery end, another sold for $99,041 at a Christie's auction.
Shit, shit, shit, absolute shit this movie.
Seems you run a muck, sir.
I'll just wait until I can watch it free.
I still like the James Bond movies. ;)
@chelle12 oh come now, casino royal was a fantastic movie and so was quantum of solace! the fact is; Daniel Craig makes a fantastic bond on par with Sean Connery. is he still the same woman romancing city destroying little S.O.B from the united kingdom? yes, only turned down just a little bit so it doesn't look like some old fart is trying to fit in to society again after getting a pacemaker!
nothing will ever be as good as the older movies, but the newer ones have their own place in Hollywood and abroad as well.
to mars or bust!
@Robot & ghost,
I finally went to see it just yesterday after reading all the good reviews (hè???), and I liked the previous two Bond movies with Daniel Craig, I have no problem with him. The stunts look all really good, and the actors are fine, but the story and plot is so damn weak, and I couldn't help to see Javier Bardem doing a boring version of the genius villain he played in No Country for Old men. Also the romance that we're used to get is over before it starts ... meh meh meh ... I could go on for a while, I had high hopes for this one, only to be disappointed. Sorry for my language, I guess the frustration is still fresh, if this article would have been a week later I wouldn't have given a damn any more. I had a similar disappointed when seeing the latest Batman movie, lot of action a crazy bad guy, but no depth or intrigue ... lame. btw there are no futuristic gadgets, it even looked at the end like a scene from the A Team with B.A. Baracus welding up some old stuff together.
btw Robot you are wise to wait until free to watch.
Daniel Craig in Cowboys and Aliens I thought very cool. He was viciously mean, yet at those moments it seem justified and intelligent even if he lost his memory, lol. I like that movie for science fiction, Daniel Craig intensity and my belief of the Sumerian history of aliens coming to Earth and exploiting our minerals\Gold and use of humans.
Oh since no other culture prior to the Sumerians has the same stories, it is not consider a myth\as in handed down stories from other cultures, but in fact a history that was written down from its observed source.
I haven't seen Cowboys and Aliens ... imma put in on top of my to see list, thanks for the tip. And Daniel Craig has got some catching up to do because he wasn't any good either in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I started to watch that DVD on fast forward after 15 minutes. Perhaps it's the classic, woaowha I've read the book and it's much better than the movie, that has gotten the best of me. Luckily I haven't read the history book on the Sumerians, that will definitely be a plus when I get to see that one.
For the money market profit machine with movies, it seems science fiction, violence, sex, effects is number 90% movie with a little spice of story and plot. And in those that do have plots and stories look for the movies that are 2 hours or longer.
Let’s see, Skyline is 143 minutes long. For me, it probably has enough plot and story to be enjoyable. We all have our own expectations and taste.
Skyline story line:
"... Bond's mission is to keep a computer drive that has a list of British agents from being used against them. He chases the man who has it and they have a brawl on top of a train. Eve, an agent sent to assist Bond has them in her cross hairs but hesitates to take the shot because she might hit Bond but M orders her to take it. She does, and hits Bond who falls into the river and is believed to be dead. A few months later, the British government is upset with MI6 for losing the list; specifically with M. She is told that she'll be allowed to retire but she refuses to leave till the matter is resolved. So she returns to HQ to work on it but as she arrives, there's an explosion. In the meantime, Bond, who is not dead, has been laying low. When he learns of what happened, he returns. And M tasks him with finding the one who has the information. He eventually learns that the man, who has it, is someone from M's past and who has it in for her...”

Yea, I want to see it!!!!
<i>Skyline</i> IS a Sci-fi movie and not the same as JB's <i>Skyfall</i>.
(What the heart is full of the mouth speaks?!)
... and sure you want to see it. I was once like you are know, lol
Please come back one day when you've seen it, and write your review. Ping me when you did so, and see me commenting on some other topic some day in the future, so I can check up on it.
LOL, .... snort, I am so goofy, ha ha! In my haste, I was searching for the time of the movie and in that I came across it's review then quickly posted.
Ha Ha! I found the wrong movie.... I such a dope, lol...
But, my comment about finding a 2 hour or movie still stands. More often than not, it usually comes with a story\plot as well as special effects.
ha yes you are goofy because the review was actually correct, only using the tittle <i>"Skyline"</i> was wrong.
And sure the movie comes with a plot. But at one point in the movie I was hoping/guessing that he was controlling the system with his brain in some integrated bionic way, slightly similar to what is shown in that other article Popsci with the french robot. And if so the genre would have be taken to the next level, but it didn't and it switched into an ordinary police chase ... mh, bummer.
Ok, let me try this again, lol.
2hr 23min - Rated PG-13 - Action/Adventure/Suspense/Thriller
Director: Sam Mendes - Cast: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Helen McCrory.
Skyfall story line:
In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M (Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
And there ya go!
I hope I got it right this time, lol.... snort.
Yep that's it. Although you're not mentioning Bérénice Marlohe, an intriguing beauty that could have been one of the best bond girls ever but ... well I guess you'll have to see the movie.
