Launched in May 2013, Spark IO is an open source startup that creates hardware and software for hackers, makers, and DIY enthusiasts to make their own Internet-connected devices. Plus, their products come super cheap, which makes connecting gadgets easier and more affordable than ever. Popular Science correspondent Katie Linendoll talks with Spark CEO Zach Supalla about the Spark Core, a tiny development kit that helped to make a smart Hobbit sword that turns blue when there is unsecured Wi-Fi networks present.
