It wouldn't be right to go this week without a photographic look at the Olympics, so we've got this awesome fencing image, a shot of the competitor-tracking cameras, and the unlit Olympic flame. But there's also a lot more, including a 3-D supernova and a deadly typhoon in China. Check out the gallery to see them all.
This week's roundup of the best science images fits in a wide range. Above, we have a striking (non-Photoshopped!) look at the results of a toxic red spill in Hungary. But we've also included the first photo ever put on the Web -- which has aged just about as poorly as you'd expect. Plus electrified fish, spacecraft in transit, and more.
This week, we have beautiful jewel caterpillars that look like they were sculpted out of slick crystal, a massive architectural concept inspired by Twitter, artist's concepts of super Earths and black holes, but really, it's all about this guy. A mere few days old, this baby elephant still lacks a name. We left our suggestions in the gallery, but welcome yours!

This week's image roundup has a pink black hole, a monkey drinking from a straw, a catfish that detects earthquakes, and a curious item that washed all the way across the Pacific during the Japanese tsunami. It is a good one! Read it and look at it!
This week's amazing image roundup takes us from the ocean of flowers in China's Yunnan province to the rim of Oregon's Crater Lake, from a macro view of the Milky Way to a very close-up view of the inside of an elephant. Enjoy!
In this week's roundup, we say goodbye to the space shuttle Discovery, hello to a bright purple crab, "yes please" to laser-cut nori, and "good god get that thing away from me" to an orb-weaver spider. More amazing images from the past week in the gallery below.
Five amazing, clean technologies that will set us free, in this month's energy-focused issue. Also: how to build a better bomb detector, the robotic toys that are raising your children, a human catapult, the world's smallest arcade, and much more.
