Interesting that there is no mention of the TeslaMotors Roadster. There are already 1000+ on the road here and in Europe. It is the ONLY highway-capable EV in production, and gets about 240 mi. per charge. Running cost is about 2¢/mi. Top speed is limited to 125 electronically. 0-60 in either 3.9 or 3.7 seconds, depending on whether you get the "regular" or Sportster model.
It is a 2-passenger sportscar, so not suitable for family transport. But the Model S will carry up to 7, if the optional 2 rear-facing child seats are used.
I love this car, all-electric? Finally a green car produced on a large scale.

I still think series hybrid tech is the way to go until batteries are much better as far as energy density, cost and charge time is concerned.
