With Samsung TecTiles, smartphones interact with their environment with a simple tap. Each one-inch sticker contains a small amount of memory and a near-field communication (NFC) radio. An Android app assigns the TecTiles any of 15 actions, including opening an app or checking in on Facebook, and owners then place the stickers around their homes. Tap an NFC-enabled phone—about a dozen came out this year—against a TecTile near the front door, for example, and it will automatically join the local Wi-Fi network. $15 for five
