The Wii U is not only the first new major game console from any manufacturer in more than four years, it’s also the first system with two-screen play. A custom IBM processor and high-def graphics engine drive both the main TV image and the 6.2-inch LCD touchscreen on the Wii U controller, which is connected over Nintendo’s proprietary wireless channel. Developers can create maps, tools, and unique camera angles for the controller screen. From $300
You remember Sega Dreamcast? Yeah, they've been here, they've done this, they were just a little ahead of their time I see. Sega actually made it so the memory and screen was removable from the controller, they called it a VMU; you could play games, and other apps right there with no connected console. Let's see the consortium of small apps that come out for the Wii U video controllers, and whether Nintendo's borrowed idea works for them. I prefer Apple's airplay with my iPhone and Apple TV for playing console quality games using cool technology.
@RanoOnay: Hahahaha, a 48x32 dot monochrome display hardly even constitutes a "screen". I could play more "apps" (although the word wasn't even invented then) on my self-programmed drafting calculator than on the VMU. Nintendo pioneered the handheld gaming industry, and really no serious game manufacturer has been able to touch it since. I'm excited for Nintendo to finally meld its hand held devices with its incredible console ingenuity.
