A thermostat has tremendous power: It controls heating and cooling, the most expensive, energy-guzzling system in a house. Until the Nest, thermostats wielded that power blindly. The Nest learns a household’s schedule and preferences after just one week and programs itself (and if those preferences change, the Nest adapts accordingly). It uses activity, humidity, and temperature sensors to monitor the indoor climate and adjust it for maximum efficiency.
The Nest can also shut down the air conditioner’s compressor a few minutes early to make the most of the cool air still available after it cycles off. The homeowner can always adjust the device from home or the road, but will rarely need to—which makes this the first thermostat truly compatible with people’s lives.
Power: Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
Compatibility: 95% of 24-volt systems
Price: $249
I am for the new, gee wiz technology and smart devices, but for the “Nest Learning Thermostat”, they can keep the price. Smart devices are supposed to get cheaper, not more expensive.
Future joy will be, when LED lights are the same price as old incandescence lights. Somebody just needs to manufacture them on a larger scale or create a better manufacturing process.
When power tools with sharp edges include “Matrix” as part of their name, I am a little worried.
The “Wilton Bad Ass Sledge Hammer” appears to be design for the Incredible Hulk in mind. I like tools and if you need a sledgehammer, this appears to be a good one.
Why “Ass” being used in the description of two article devices? Oh, I miss the good old days when PoPSCi preferred to use ‘embiggen’, lol. This fan in the picture is somewhat neat!
The Ryobi Cordless 40 Volt Blower appears to be a useful new tool for home.
DeWalt always seems to make nice tool, as in the DeWalt 10-Amp Compact Reciprocating Saw.
Do I really need to pay $250 for an ugly red “Bodum Bistro B. Over” coffee maker? Really?!
For the under the sink home toolbox, this “Gyro 4V Max Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Screwdriver” looks handy for all the small home jobs, nice!
The new and improved ice cube tray, “Quirky Cube Tube” appears like a super idea! I am going to wait, until it’s at Wal-Mart or Target and the price comes down. Neat idea though!

Robot, the Nest is expensive because it does more things than the classic thermostats. Why is that a problem for you? It will get cheaper (or as you might like to say, "encheapen") in a few years. It's a great idea to some of us. If you don't like it, pay higher energy bills or live in discomfort instead.
I want a Cylon for a wife, lol.
