
Medication errors add at least $3.5 billion to heath-care costs and harm 1.5 million patients in the U.S. every year. To bring down the error rate, the pharmacists at the University of California at San Francisco’s UCSF Medical Center put robots in charge of identifying, sorting, packaging, and dispensing medication for the entire hospital. The robots have administered 1.7 million doses (and counting) with 100 percent accuracy.
