PURETi

Smog-killing coating

Green Tech 2 of 7
PURETi PURETi

Titanium dioxide, typically used as a pigment in toothpaste and an active ingredient in sunscreen, can also, in ultraviolet light, act as a catalyst to break down air pollutants. After 10 years of research, PURETi produced a titanium dioxide nanoparticle spray that dries into a clear coating on almost any surface, including rooftops, fabric, windows and roadways. In tests, coating asphalt roads with PURETi decreased smog-causing pollutants by about 50 percent.

Are there any negatives to this?????

@Eric18- Hi Eric, no there are no negative impacts of PURETI. PURETI received a life cycle assessment score of -70 (negative 70), making it an significantly net environmentally beneficial technology. I would be happy to answer any additional questions you might have too. The only negative is that the whole world is not using it ;) YET

Is it cost effective enough to be deployed widely enough to make a difference? Does it last a long time before it wears out?

@TJKruse Yes, PURETI is extremely cost effective and the more square footage covered the more cost effective it is. Additionally, PURETI creates self-cleaning surfaces. Buildings treated with PURETI need to be cleaned half as often and the water, energy, chemicals and labor used to clean is drastically cut. Depending on the nature of the application, PURETI can remain active for 5+ years, a little less for heavily trafficked roads. This is due to the natural degradation of the substrate, not because PURETI becomes inactive.I would be happy to answer any additional questions you have. Please contact me at www.pureti.com. Thank you for your interest in PURETI.

There are a lot of hazards from products once they become nano sized. The products then can go right through your skin and get into cells tissues and never leave your body causing all sorts of problems.

While this product sounds great, it also makes me worry.

Science sees no further than what it can sense.
Religion sees beyond the senses.

So what about all the nano particles that we now introduce into nature? Putting them on a road will for certain spread them into the air as the road is worn down.
Are there any side effects form having ZinkOxide crystals in the air that we breath and the water that we drink?

How often to you need to regenerate the catalyst??
How do simple dust particles affect the catalytic properties of the TiO2. What pollutants does the TiO2 catalyze? CO to CO2?

What's the deal with all the Titanium Dioxide articles??

Titanium Dioxide is the Asbestos mistake of our time. It breaks the blood brain barrier and is the cause of several deadly health issues. Just type Titanium Dioxide in your search engine to learn more about it. Might want to change your soap, your toothpaste, your vitamins and your sunscreen and pray that the world catches on before they start mass producing this Pureti poisen. Or you can shrug it off as nonsense and kick yourself in the you know what when you and your kids start developing deadly cancers.

Your asking to put this on roads and buildings everywhere in a super absorbable powder that MAY or MAY NOT cause cancer, but is for a fact a skin and eye irritant? Everyone search the link I provided Please! Know the Facts!

@healtyhkids

I actually eat the stuff for breakfast lunch and dinner and now have super powers!!! RAWR

lol ugh so tired of everything eithe causing or prevent cancer...i am just gonna eat shit and do whatever I feel like freaking doing cuz GUESS WHAT I AM STILL GONNA FREAKING DIE SOME DAY SO I AM GONNA ENJOY MY LIFE HOW I SEE FIT NOT HOW ALL YOU FREAK SHOWS TELL ME TOO spitting your crap about how this isn't safe and how that isn't safe tired of it.

@Delkomatic

I agree. I want to do a study that proves no matter what you do in life, you're eventually going to die so have a drink, smoke em if you got em, and enjoy life. Besides, what's good for you today is bad for you tomorrow and vise versa.

lol, love the company shill in here talking about how awesome the product is, and then as soon as someone posts some FACTS that contradict the "Safety" claims... poof... ghost.

Gotta love that.

@isitcoldinhere

Exactly

I see every day people that are in the best shape of their lives drop dead of a heart attack and people that smoke 3 packs a day drink every day and eat red meat live to be 100...it don't mean shit...you will DIE when you are MEANT to die...if you go through life worrying about all this crap you will kill your self sooner than you were supposed to die in the first place I will go ahead and ask everyone to re-read isitcoldinhere comment and live by it not so much in an exact sense but in a metaphorical sense carpe diem

I don't know all the facts, but it seems to me that if this stuff is being used as a CATALYST, the quantities are small enough as to not cause any harm. On the other hand, with toothpaste, you're exposing yourself to anywhere between a tenth of a gram to half a gram of titanium dioxide, and onto tissues that absorb well (i.e oral mucosa). Since whatever disease TiO2 is supposed to cause is probably due to buildup of unnatural metal ions in the brain(i.e those that the body isnt used to, kind of like heavy metal toxicity from Pb or Hg), its highly doubtful that something that is used as a low concentration catalyst will be anywhere near as dangerous as something that we put in our mouths twice a day. Just my thoughts. If you have evidence to the contrary, preferably with legit-looking links, please post them and educate me....

@tyler555
Go to the same site and look up sucrose. Same warnings. Everything is at least a mild eye/skin irritant

PURETi takes safety very seriously. In fact, PURETi is registered safe for food surface contact by the National Sanitation Foundation.

Here are the facts:

1) nanotoxicology is real and should be taken seriously; 2) TiO2 is a the 9th most common mineral on the planet. 3) it’s white pigment and it’s in our toothpaste, makeup, sunscreens and paint. 3) As a result, TiO2 has been widely studied. 4) multiple 30 year, morbidity studies of tens of thousands of TiO2 workers exposed to TiO2 dust show no deviation from normal health statistics. 5) the vast preponderance of evidence has found TiO2 to be safe in all forms 5) there are a handful of studies of rats breathing relatively high levels of TiO2 nano-powders that did show respiratory issues. 6) there are 10 ten times more studies of mice and hamsters breathing relatively high levels of TiO2 nano powders that did not show respiratory issues.

It is also important to understand that PURETi is not a powder and never uses powders. PURETi is a water based mineral solution with all crystals encapsulated in water that forms a highly durable mineral film that does not abrade easily. If PURETi abrades, it abrades in flakes that are greater than 100nm which is substantially larger than the nano powders that have been found to cause problems for rats and scientifically above the threshold of concern.

Send an e-mail to info@pureti.com and they will be glad to provide references to the voluminous research material on this issue.

@James Johnson
PURETI safely and naturally oxidizes VOCs, greenhouse gases, NOx, SOx, mold and other microbial contamination. The process is known as photo-catalysis. Photo-Catalysis is defined as "acceleration by the presence of as catalyst". A catalyst does not change in itself or being consumed in the chemical reaction. This definition includes photosensitization, a process by which a photochemical alteration occurs in one molecular entity as a result of initial absorption of radiation by another molecular entity called the photosensitized.

Photocatalysis creates strong oxidation agent to breakdown any organic matter in the presence of photocatalyst, light and water. Generally speaking, disinfections by titanium dioxide is three times stronger than chlorine, and 1.5 times stronger than ozone.

When photocatalyst titanium dioxide (TiO2) absorbs Ultraviolet (UV)* radiation from sunlight or illuminated light source (fluorescent lamps), it will produce pairs of electrons and holes. The electron of the valence band of titanium dioxide becomes excited when illuminated by light. The excess energy of this excited electron promoted the electron to the conduction band of titanium dioxide therefore creating the negative-electron (e-) and positive-hole (h+) pair. This stage is referred as the semiconductor's 'photo-excitation' state. The energy difference between the valence band and the conduction band is known as the 'Band Gap'. Wavelength of the light necessary for photo-excitation is: 1240 (Planck's constant, h) / 3.2 ev (band gap energy) = 388 nm. The positive-hole of titanium dioxide breaks apart the water molecule to form hydrogen gas and hydroxyl radical. The negative-electron reacts with oxygen molecule to form super oxide anion. This cycle continues when light is available.

The hydroxyl radicals accelerate the breakdown of any Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs by destroying the molecular bonds. This will help combine the organic gases to form a single molecule that is not harmful to humans thus enhance the air cleaning efficiency.

The photocatalytic reactivity of titanium oxides can be applied for the reduction or elimination of polluted compounds in air such as NOx, cigarette smoke, as well as volatile compounds arising from various construction materials. Atmospheric constituents such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and CFC substitutes, greenhouse gases, and nitrogenous and sulfurous compounds undergo photochemical reactions either directly or indirectly in the presence of sunlight. In a polluted area, these pollutants can eventually be removed.

@all
Excuse my inability to count to 8 on my first comment, it does not reflect on the substance of my comments, just my reliance on auto-correct :)

it appears this is safer than the polutants it eliminates, duh! to all the cospiracy theorists, cheers

and she's hot!

@Christina what a breath of fresh air. Obviously well informed and connected to provide additional information and not taking troll bait and keeping topical.

My now suddenly topical quesiton: Is this coating like a topcoat and serves like an expoxy? Or am I missing the point and it's more like powdercoat and it bonds on a molecular level.

Now if only Elvis Presly had died on your birthday... but hey nobody's perfect.

@edisonkenevil Thank you! And to answer your question
PURETi calls its products "surface treatments" as opposed to paints or coatings to highlight its remarkable thinness. You would have to spray apply PURETi 25,000 times to reach the dry film build of a typical paint or coating. Equally remarkable is PURETi's tenacious bonding performance, which is chemical in nature. In fact, PURETi has developed a non-photocatalytic product called PING (PURETi Inorganic Nano Glue) - a water based mineral film former that university labs have successfully used to immobilize single wall carbon nano tubes on various substrates and commercial labs have used to successfully impede de-lamination in thin solar films.
And my brother was born on July 15th, the day the King died.. Does that count for anything? :)

drchuck1,
She is part of the sales force and you have been beguiled, of course she is pretty. She also does a song and dance and if you put PURETI on your penis it will grow and both you and you lover will have a better organism.

I am looking for a 3rd part opinion on this product, please.

@drchuck1, while humorous I find your comment a bit rude. Perhaps demonstrating that on the web the only manners come from those who are held to some constraint such as being on the "sales force".

Personal statements aside if you read Christina's comments (as I had to several times before I could understand it) it is clear there is a great deal of information being put forth that I don't see any "technical" arguments against.

okay so let me distill the info here. This is a nano tech "treatment" that breaks down pollution in to less harmful componennts. Disregarding the whole global climate change debate, smog reduction should be a logical step here. If the product works in an economical manner it seems likely we will be seeing it produced.

Question: Why not just add it to the exhaust system of vehicles? Or is it a surface area to smog conversion issue. If so could'nt you increase surface area utilizeing some kinde of multiwalled carbon nanotube substrate that has a large surface area of contact? Probably not considering I barely understand the difference between chair, spiral, and chiral nanotubes.

but hey just to make myself feel smarter why not pick on the smartist one in the room and point out that Elvis died on August 16th 1977 not in July.

"Question: Why not just add it to the exhaust system of vehicles?"

Surprised no one's answered this one, since the answer is obvious - PURETi is a photocatalyst, and the "photo" part of that equation isn't satisfied in the dark voids of the exhaust system.
