Surround-sound systems typically require their subwoofer and five speakers to be strategically placed around a room. For the first time, Bose packed that entire setup into an HDTV. Inside the six-inch-thick cabinet, six speaker cones sit back-to-back in two rows and fire in opposing directions, canceling out any shaking, and a curved bell directs bass out of the bottom of the set. Seven speakers near the top of the set steer location-specific sounds, like voices and gunshots, to the corners of the room, while two narrow radiators disperse ambient sounds. A single tweeter near the bottom of the screen handles high frequencies. $5,350
