Veer Towers

The Veer Towers may lean a degree more than the tower of Pisa, but, unlike the Italian tower, the floors (and rooftop pool area) have no lean at all. The core structure containing the elevators and stairways is plumb and is located at a different offset on each floor.

There are two other notable stories in the Las Vegas CityCenter development. The Vdara hotel has a large concave face which can focus sunlight sometimes creating the so-called "Vdara death ray" in the pool area. Despite the installation of energy-absorbing shading material on the walls, the focused area is a serious risk to guests.

The second story is the failure of the Harmon Hotel. The Harmon was supposed to be a 49-story building, but structural problems in the construction capped the construction at 28 stories. There are currently no plans to finish the interior and the building may be destroyed in 2012.

The nearby Hoover Dam Bypass was listed in the Best of What's New for 2009. That bridge is now open and offers spectacular views of the dam. No traffic is allowed on the dam itself, which makes for a much for peaceful experience for tourists. The only unfortunate detail is that Nevada has yet to update the roads around Boulder City and there are delays in getting to the bridge area.
