Neh. With $30 more you can get the HTC Hero with 2 MP more in the camera, the ability to shoot video, the ability to forward text messages, flash capability on the internet, and the Android Market. All that you lose is the physical QWERTY and the ability to run programs simultaneously. But since you can use Mac-like widgets on the Hero, losing the ability to run simultaneous programs isn't a big deal.
I've used both phones and I have to say I think the Pre is vastly superior to the Hero in terms of hardware (better processor, better GPU) and software. There are also hacks out there that allow the Pre to record video (not to mention do plenty of other things) and the physical keyboard is a deal breaker for me.
WebOS is a new operating system, Android has been out for a while. I'm already pretty impressed with WebOS and the Pre is the perfect form factor for me. Big screen, physical keyboard and still small enough to easily fit in your pocket. I chose the Pre over all the other android phones, winmo phones and the iPhone. To each his own though.
Just because a phone has a camera that has the capability to do more megapixels doesn't mean it does (Droid has a crappy 5 megapixel camera). You can record video now if yu get a patch but palm in their last update laid the groundwork for video recording so that it is more genuwine. You can foward text messages yu will have flash capabilities on the pre in early 2010. the palm app store has grown by hundreds since june and there are homebrew apps that are in the thousands. The physical keyboard is great on this phone, it has a sticky feel and is easy to operate w/ one hand if needed. My sausage fingers do not do well with touch screen typing.
As far as multi-tasking goes, I'll never be able to use another phone without it.
Hoping our video recording releases before the year is out! This phone has come leaps and bounds since release.
WebOs 1.31 released last friday and the processing speed of the phone seems to have taken off. I'd love to see comparisons between the "new" Pre, and any phone on the market by the time we reach webOs 2.0 or 3
