Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max Tires

Tires that save fuel

Auto Tech 4 of 10
Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max Tires

Promising a significant 4 percent gain in fuel economy, the Fuel Max tire will be standard equipment on the Chevrolet Volt when it goes into production late next year. A new tread compound reduces rolling resistance, meaning less energy lost to friction, with no reduction in dry- or wet-weather traction. In August, an Australian couple set a new world mileage record on the Fuel Max Tires, managing 67.9 mpg over a 9,000-mile, three-week trip through the U.S. in a stock Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel, whipping the 58.82-mpg record they had set the previous year in the same car over the same route.

Saving gas is nice and important, but since the tire is your only contact with the road I place far greater priority on the performance and handling qualities of a tire. If it costs me a few percent in fuel economy, I would rather have the tire that stops shorter, for example, especially in the wet.

James2....Don't forget that this tire was an "Assurance" before it was upgraded to include the compounds that then made it a Fuel Max "Assurance". Just doing a simple search of the Assurance line and you'll see that traction and handling are definitely not a concern. TireRack.com has over 2100 reviews and although there are some from people that had bad experiences with noise and wear, the overall average rating is an 8.55 out of 10. The majority of the comments look similar to this one; "With out question the Very Best Tires I have ever owned / driven on. Awesome value that provide complete driving confidence and security to our family under any and all driving conditions. A Job very well done Goodyear ... thank you."
With the improvement of including the Fuel Max compounds, Goodyear has really outdone itself and proves again why they're truly the best tire company in the world.
Maybe if you're lucky Santa will leave a set under the tree? :)
Good driving and happy holidays.
