It’s hard to get a good night’s sleep when you’re camping. Air mats can be cold and wobbly, and foam mats are too heavy to be worth carrying. The NeoAir solves both problems. An aluminum-based film inside the mat both reflects heat back to the body and acts as a barrier to keep cold air against the ground. Inside, hundreds of strong nylon triangles create a light (only 14 ounces), stable 2.5-inch-thick cushion. $150; thermarest.com
Cascade Designs has been selling inflatable sleeping pads with an internal layer of open celled foam insulation to prevent conductive heat loss of your typical pool toy inflatable mattress for many years, but if they've actually managed to do away with the internal foam layer and replaced it with some kind of honeycomb maintaining the same insulation value and equaling the weight of a typical closed cell foam pad, which they also sell and which is my preference, AND making it 2.5" thick, as opposed to their lightest 1" thick inflatable or 0.625" thick closed cell pad, well not only will I be purchasing one, but this will be so vastly superior to anything else they sell, they may as well stop selling anything else!
