01_large20070905Apple didn't exactly shock the world today with the announcement of its new iPod Touch, but the gadget-loving faithful weren't disappointed, either. With trademark grandeur, Apple guru Steve Jobs announced a revamped line of the absurdly popular music players.

The new iPod touch will take advantage of the touch-screen technology developed for the iPhone, and users will be able to connect to the Internet at a WiFi hotspot, too. It's basically an iPhone without the phone part. Other upgrades include a standard iPod with double the memory, and iPod nanos with 2-inch screens. And for those of you who decided to shell out the cash for an iPhone in the last few weeks, sorry to break this to you, but Apple's slashing the price. The cost of an 8GB model is dropping from $599 to $399.Gregory Mone

itouch is great, but what if they had included camera, voice recorder, loudspeaker, or a radio tuner in it (maybe internet radio will kill the regular radio though), the 'touch' would have been greatest! a PiMP

8GB and 16GB models are the biggest disappointment here. However, I understand the use of a flash drive keeps it nice and thin and reliable from a storage standpoint.

An SD card slot would have negated the memory issue and kept the thinness. It has become a standard, but Apple is determined to control the hardware.

It's about time the iTouch came out. A loudspeaker would have been preferable but I can't complain much since they made the screen larger. The inclusion of a camera and voice recorder is inane because of the iPhone (that would be overly redundant). It is another step in the increase your ipod collection direction with the true downside being the hard drive space. A 30G would have been worth the money. Give a few months before apple increases the hard drive size like they did with apple tv.

@Chris: I thought Ipod Touch uses a flash memory, that makes in pretty impossible (and too expensive) to make a Touch with 30GB memory.
But I hope 16GB is enough for me.

I think the iPod tuoch is great, I have wifi at my house so I love the IFO features I am actually sending this from my iPod touch, the keyboard is small but for a kid with small fingers like me it works fine. More memory wouldve been nice but I think 8 gigs is enough for me.

I bet i can find a LOT of people that wouldn't buy a touch for its memory limit, i find it very attractive but with only 16 gigs it sucks, i can carry 1/3 of my music so i will still have to change the library just like CD's and i hate that. It is possible to increase the memory and certainly will be expensive but totally worth it!

I have a ipod touch and it is fantastic and the wiifi is very good and the web pages are real and it loads very fast for a small thing. The videos are also very great and have amazing image quality for a ipod.
